My name is Carlie, but it was going to be Christa until, 2 weeks before I was born, a couple who lived around the corner from my parents named their newborn son Christopher. My parents and his parents really weren't that close, they just attended the same church. I always thought it was odd that they thought our names would be too close, lest we end up in the same classes, I guess?

My top names right now (not pg or ttc yet) are Ava, Kira and Mia (I'm hoping for only daughters!). However, my best friend's brother and his wife are naming their soon-to-be-born daughter Kira. she is due in december.

Will I still be able to use this name in good conscience and good taste? or is it too confusing? are there guidelines for this? Just for the record, the only "repeat" names in my extended family are Karen, Katie, and John/Jonathan

I don't think that should factor in at all. What about when kids make friends in school with the same name as them? That's not a big deal, so I don't think this should be either. You name your child whatever you want to name your child and don't worry about anyone else.

if you it was your bestfriend that you saw everyday and the kids would be close in age, i would avoid using the same name. but it's your friends' brother, and you're not even ttc yet, so i wouldn't worry about it at all. if you are worried, it would still be a nice middle name, or a name for a second daughter to give it an even bigger age gap.

i love your girl names, btw. i'm hoping for only girls too... well, just one more girl (i have an almost-2-year-old named Kira).

Unless you see her brother and his wife all the time, I don't think it matters at all, especially since you won't even be having kids any time soon. Besides, maybe you'll end up with all boys. ;)

My brother's name is Christopher and he was going to be Christa if he was a girl so that makes sense to me.

And since there will be a good age gap, I don't think the Kira thing would be a big deal.

I wouldn't waste energy worrying about it until you're actually on daughter #3, still liking the name Kira more than any other, and still friend's with these people.

I adore Christa, Ava & Mia. (Amelia)
I think by the time you have kids Kira will be older, & it wont be such an issue. (you most likely wont like the name in several years anyway!) If you were giving birth now too it probably would be a little close. However, if you love a name that much i'd use it regardless.
