[identity profile] hitzpink.livejournal.com posting in [community profile] babynames
I was wondering, how many of you personally know somebody named Aidan/Caidan/Jaydan/etc? My cousin recently had a baby named Caidan. The general reaction has been "Oh, that's so cute! How did you think of that?" Last weekend, my boyfriend's brother and his girlfriend announced that they're expecting a baby. If it's a boy they are going to name him Aidan because they "want something different and not boring." Gah!

So, how many -adans do you guys know?

Aidan is quite popular. If they look up statistics, they'll see just how common the name is right now. I know at least.... 6 boys under the age of 5 named Aiden.

Kayden/Caiden I have heard of, but personally have not known many.

Jayden/Jaden is extremely popular, or at least where I'm at.

:)

I know a few Aidans who are older, before it became trendy.
I worked in a preschool last year and got to meet Kayden, Jayden, Hayden and Brayden :p

I've never met a Caidan or Aiden. My Cousin's son is named Jayden (7) and my friend's Dad is Adon, pronounced just like it's spelled. I've NEVER met an Aiden/Caidan, which surprises me when I read that it's so popular. I worked at two Military Base and I met A LOT of people too. Weird.

yeah, my husband's cousins son. maybe it was payden. i can't remember. i've also seen it peyton but don't know anyone personally who spells it like that.

even though peyton ends with "ton" doesn't make is any less an -aden name to me. unless you have a british/australian accent and actually pronounce it as a T instead of a D.

yeah, that "uh" sound (like in the word uh-oh) is called a "glottal stop" in linguistics. that's how i pronounce payton too.

Lol, i hope you correct then- Aiden is SO trendy!!! I tried to explain to my friends that Aiden/Caden/Jayden etc is super popular- the whole 'if you added all the babies born that had names rhyming with Aiden it would outnumber the top baby name' they thuoght i was being silly lol didnt get it.
I know 1 Aidan & 1 Cadon, but then i dont know many people who have just had babies...

None, but I personally know maybe 15 people at most under 5 years old. And most people I do know go for truly original stuff (Ephraim, Salome, Townes, Greta, Marielle -- kids of my friends) and not the trendy names. So my perspective is skewed.

Aidan is the definition of boring. I'd print out the stats page and highlight the Aidan names for them. Or better yet, that post someone made about a month ago demonstrating where -aden names as a whole fall. That post needs to be in this communities memories.

i know 2 braeden's

braeden (female, 25) and braeden (male, 3).

of course i have known the female braeden a while, and it has always seemed like a feminine name to me because of that.

I work at a daycare center and I know an Aidan (10 years), Aidan (6 years), Jayden (2 years), Caidan (6 years) Hayden (5 years) Haydn (9 years) Braeden (2 years) and Graydon (6 years)

Caidan's dad thought he made up the name. He dreamed it one day while mom was pregnant and suggested it to her when he woke up from his dream.

My cousin just had a baby, Hayden. Then my cousin's cousin has a little boy named Caden.

The names used to be cute and special, but looking at the local online birth announcements, it's like every other kid is an -aden. It's getting kinda annoying:(

I know at least one of each (Aiden, Caiden, Hayden and Jayden)...they're all younger than 4. so it's kinda crazy but they're adorable! I'm quite fond of their names also. :)

I guess those names aren't all that popular in Britan just yet, though am not too in with the under 5 crowd. Only know one Aidan.
That said I know so freaking many via online it's absurd; at least four Aidans [all diffrent spelling variants] in one forum alone.

I can think of (off the top of my head) 3 little Aidans, 2 Jadens (assorted spellings) and a couple Breydon's. I actually had a discussion w/the mother about Breydon and how yeah, even if it's not spelled 'Braeden' or 'Braydon' or whatever, when you SAY IT OUT LOUD IT'S STILL THE SAME NAME. it sounds exactly like all the other -adens.

it makes me laugh when people say things like that about overused names being 'different' or 'not boring'! like my SS's mother had NO clue how popular Kayla & Logan are/were/have become (between 1997-the year Kayla was born- 2000-the year Logan was born & now)

I'm a recent college graduate with practically no regular contact with children I actually know... but of the children I hear called at the supermarket, restaurants, on the street, etc., approximately 1/3 of the boys' names rhyme with -aden. Just look at the charts for last year, anyway. All spellings of just "Aidan" combined achieve #3 - put that with all the Jaden/Braden/Caden/Hayden/Grayden/Slayden/Maiden?? and you've got the most popular phoneme in the country.

Just my 15 year old cousin Aden, a 8 year old Tayton, and a 11 year old Peyton. My college roommate is naming her son Braden after his father, Brandon, which is kinda cute. I just don't like either name.

I know a Caidan, and I was at a party a couple months ago where there were 3 babies, one was Caidan (diff from the first one) and one was Jayden.

I NEVER meet babies/little kids, so I was shocked.

I used to babysit a Jayden in highschool. He is 7 now and has a brother named Dalton. At the time I thought it was such a cute name, then the popularity wave hit.

My boyfriend's nephew's name is Ayden (it's not a creative spelling of Aiden, Ayden is a Hebrew name that means something totally different than Aiden). He is 4 years old.

My boyfriend and I really like the singer Hayden, and a few years ago we were considering the name as a nice middle name for future kids. Hahaha I would never let that happen now.

I don't know of any other people with -Ayden themed names IRL but I have heard of TONS and TONS online.
