Thoughts on the name FIONA?
I really like it but is it a good name for a little girl?
What are some possible nicknames (besides FI)

My friend and his wife had their second baby today. A little girl named JULES AILEEN. She joins big sister ALICE DENINE.

WDYT?

Fiona is one of my cat's names. We call her a multitude of names associated with her weight problem but only Fi and Fifi associated with her name.

Fiona's cute. Very English to me. (English, as in, from England.) NNs - Fi ... Fifi.

I went to HS with a girl named Fiana, which was interesting.

I like Fiona. I know a couple babies with the name- it seems to be growing in popularity. It's cute.

I like Fiona but is not a list-topper for me.

I love the name Fiona. I also like the nn Fi. The only other one I can think of is Fifi, but that always makes me think of a French poodle.

I like Jules but I don't like the spelling of Aileen. Alice is ok, but I don't care for Denine at all.

It's okay. The nickname Fi is kind of cute; the only other two I can think of are Fio and Fifi (which makes me think of a tiny dog).
Jules makes me think of Jules Verne. Jules on a girl- nickname. I really dislike Denine.

I think that's the standard spelling of Aileen ... which is different from Eileen. (assuming you thought it was Eileen spelled weird)

I really like the Fiona. It's pretty---it would work well on a little girl and on a woman. I'm sorry, but Fi is the only name I can think of.

Eh, Jules seems more like a nickname for Julia than an actual given name.

What's wrong with Shrek?

Dear Lord, am I the only person who liked Princess Fiona and/or thinks of the show So Weird when they hear the name Fiona?

My sister considered it for both of her girls, actually. I love it.

Also, we call my niece "Ohh-na" sometimes. Her name is Leona.

Love Fiona and Alice, I've considered those names for my daughters. Fiona does remind me of Shrek or of Fiona Apple, just like you can't hear Alice without thinking "In Wonderland". But I really don't see those as negatives. Once you know someone by that name, the association tends to stop and you just think of that person when you hear that name.

Yes, that's what I thought. Is Aileen an Irish name?

Am I the only one who thinks Burn Notice when I hear/see the name Fiona?

I know a TON of Fionas. Its a nice name but its probably just a tad too popular for me. Iona/Ona maybe as a nickname? :p

Yes, it's Irish, and the 1st syllable is pronounced like the letter A.

I've known two people (both Irish) w/ this name.

Also, the little girl who played Annie in the '80s movie was named Aileen Quinn.

When I hear Fiona, I think of Shrek, but when I hear the nn Fi, I think of So Weird.

To the OP: I think Fiona is a nice enough name. I like Alice, but I don't care for Jules. To me, Jules is a male name or a female nickname. Specifically, Jules makes me think of Jules Verne and Amy Jo Johnson's character Julianna "Jules" Callaghan on Flashpoint. I don't like either of the middle names, sorry to say.

I really like Fiona. I'd probably end up using Fee or Fia as a nickname.

Fiona is so pretty. Reminds me of Burn Notice! And that's a good association to have - she is smart and beautiful!

I love Fiona. I know people are saying it's popular, but really I haven't met one nor do I know of anyone who's planning on using the name. I did consider it once, and I think it's really funny that it means pretty and the nickname is pronounced "Fee". It's sort of like "Everything beautiful has it's costs" which cracks me up because it's relevant to little girls. Evil little girls. Like mine :P But now you can put it into a name!

I LOVE Fiona -- but it does remind me of Euro Trip.
