Like a week or so ago I wrote in here groaning about baby naming woes.  The hubs and I were not agreeing much and I was bummed by the whole thing.  I gave him like a million names, he vetoed all and came back with one name he wanted:  Lucian.  Specifically Lucian Targaryen.  (yes, like Game of Thrones). 

After more debate and a hard veto from me on "Targaryen", I decided to agree with Lucian, mostly becuz we'd talked about it so much that the baby BECAME "Lucian" to me, and I just can't shake it.

So he handed over full middle naming rights to me, and I decided to go with something that did the -ian like the name.  I think...I found a name...and I'm actually really excited and digging the name, specifically I think cuz of what I know I'm gonna end up nn-ing him. 

The name:  Lucian Thorian (two-syllable last name starts with M)
The nickname (or one of them I'm sure):  Luthor!  :D  Pronounced ThOR..not Therrrrr.  :P

I don't know why I like it so much!  I don't!  I just DO!

Chris says he likes it...but in the same way like he'll change his name later (We'd had the name Maximus Damian at one point that he did the same thing to...boo!)

The name will also kind of mean "bearer of light" and "thunder" which makes me think of storms, which I love. 

I'm expecting the same response from friends and family as our girl name Sylvana Rose got...which was not very enthusiastic lol

But yea.  Lucian Thorian.  Luthor.

I'm curious on peoples opinions just cuz, but I'm totally all for this name and hoping the hubs sticks with it. 

So, yay or nay to Lucian Thorian?

people are probably gonna hate on it, but whatever, i'm nerdy and i think it's a pretty cool sounding name.

i don't love that both end with -ian and i think lucian leads way to lots of other cool middle names, but if you're stuck on the Luthor thing, then i've definitely heard worse.

lol...I can't tell if that was a reluctant "yay" or a reluctant "nay". :P I'm still curious about any middle name suggestions people have. Originally I didn't like the two names both being -ian names...or -ian sounding names...but it kind of grew on me. *shrug* And I feel like a dork for the big smile I get on my face thinking of calling my kid Luthor...but...yea! :D I used to like the idea of naming a boy Montgomery just so I could call him Monty. My brains not right or something. It may be a good thing I've never had soul naming rights to a child. ha!

I like both names but that double -ian thing throws me off a little.

I actually kind of debated Lucian Thor...but I don't like that that Thor movie came out recently...which I've watched but heard sucks...which is a totally stupid reason to not wanna go with Thor! But I do like Lucian Thor too!

I actually really like Underworld, so that doesn't bother me so much...I actually kind of like the name more becuz of that movie...I'm yay! shapechangers instead of yay! vamires! so it works for me.

It doesn't suck. It's actually pretty good---not high art, but good, rollicking fun with a sympathetic supervillain (which is rare in superhero movies). Go with it if you like it! Screw the haters!

Okay I'm totally all for this name. It's actually really cool Luthor is a great nickname as well, although I'm sure it will end up being said Luther all the time.

Hahahaha. Me too. Lucian totally reminded me of Underworld (which I totally LOVE), but I'm nay on Thorian, because of the ian x 2.

How about Lucian Thorne? Or Lucian Thornton? Lucian Hawthorne? Lucian Hathor (like the Egyptian deity).Those also give you Thor for Luthor without having a double ian.

However if you truly love Lucian Thorian then ditch everyone else's opinions and go with your own.

I don't like Lucian. Luke is alright.
I don't like the double -ian.
Is Thorious (or Thorias) a name? It kinda sounds like victorious, that could be interesting and break things up.
What about naming him Luthor or Thorian as the first name?

I'm gonna say my final vote is nay cause I can't shake the Lucian hatred, sorry! I think it was the bad guy on a soap opera I watched in middle school.

Lucian is nice. Thorian is ok. I think Luthor is fine as well. I'm just really not digging the flow. The double -ian is throwing me off.

This. People probably won't even rememer that movie by the time he's older. I also like Lucian Thor. It's more relatable. I think Thorian is really "out there" and Lucian is rather uncommon as well. So, I think Lucian Thor is a nice compromise.

Are you saying Luican loo SHE en or LOO shin? Either way, the double -ian ending kind of throws me off. Luthor doesn't flow naturally to me; he's probably going to get Luther all the time. It's an alright name, but you do know you're naming a child, and not a superhero, right?

My fav name from that series is Alysanne. :D I keep suggesting it to people that want A names. I have a friend who digs the A name theme. Her two daughters are Analiese (not sure if that's the spelling though) and Adalyn...so I suggested it to her when she found out she was preggo again. Turned out to be a boy though.

Lucian Thorian sounds awkward with the double -ian endings. But they are both very cool names, and I think awkwardness is not AS important with first and middle. So if you love em, go for it!

I actually really like the idea of Luthor for the first name. I've been debating bringing it up to to the hubs, but I'm also kind of petrified we'll be starting from square one if I do! Boy naming with him has always been a rough road so far. It's rather ridiculous.

I was trying to think of alternate spellings or similar names for Thorian. Like Thoren or something? I'm pretty sure that's completely made up but...yea...something *shrug* maybe.

LOO shin. Though I think I might unconciously say it more like LOO shen or LOO shun. And yea, the pronounciation of Lucian actually made me not really like the name at all at first, but now it's just kind of worked it's way off my tongue finally.

And I totally wasn't going to superhero sounding, but now that u mention it...one of our baby nursery themes was Batcave...though it morphed into just straight up superhero becuz I like Batman but the hubs is into the mindless beast heros like the Hulk and the Thing. But I've also had Dr. Suess and boy owl as themes too. I'm not actually a huge comic reader or superhero obsessing person...I do kind of like how some superhero/supervillain names sound I guess. My 3rd sons name is Ethan Cain...which I kinda of fell for despite the super common Ethan part becuz it sounds like a mystery detective or something. Thinking back though I wish we'd spelled it Ethan Kain.

So the names have similar endings - not an issue, in the grand scheme of things. People have two names that end in the same sound all the time - yours has a nice backstory to it and a cute nickname to boot. I wouldn't have chosen either of those names for a boy of mine, but only because I know he wouldn't grow up to suit them with mine and my husband's influences :)

All my kids are soooooooo different so far...it's mind boggling but I love it...cuz they're such individuals and what not :P I'm getting really antsy to to meet this lil guy and see what he looks like/acts like. I've yet to get a mellow kid either....they're all pure energy...so watch the one I name as "light" and "thunder" to be a shy lil quiet thing instead of all flash and noise!

And yea my grandma's name is actually Rosina Carolina (both prounounced with the EYE-nah sound). I wanted to name a little girl after her and in that manner too (she's kind of my hero/role model in the fam) and used to come up with names like Rosalina Christina (hubs name is Chris, my middle name is Rose after my grandma) or Rosa Chrysta or something. I've kind of outgrown that though and I always have boys anyway.

yea I like that...putting last names as middle names. Chris has a grandfather who died a couple years ago who's last name was King, and I always bring the idea of making "King" the middle name, but he's not down with the idea. *shrug* Hawthorne is such a classic author sounding name too...I luvit.

it's spelled the same, but I actually don't pronounce them the same. but only slightly lol.

It's like Loo-shin Thor-ee-an. It's still very similar though.

gah! I'm just really excited to call him Luthor. :D If it was completely up to me, I'd just make his first name Luthor.
