Why is the nickname Teddy? It's not Theodore, it's Edward. Shouldn't it be Eddie?

I love Olivia Florence!

The now-late Senator Edward Kennedy was famously known as Teddy. It works for both names, but it's less common for Edward.

I've always liked the nickname Teddy, but now that my cousin's named his son Theodore (called Theo), my only option is Edward, which I also like quite a bit.

Teddy can be a nickname for Edward (think Teddy Roosevelt). I belief it's more common in the UK. My husband goes by Ted; his name is Albert Edward.

I agree that Olivia Florence is lovely!
