I don't like a single one of them. Linkon and Kenyoun are just soooo NMS, and Cohen is always troubling as a first name. I'm not religious at all, but I would really never name my kid anything that is potentially offensive to any religion. After all, even if your friend isn't close with any Jewish people, little Cohen may grow up and want to move to certain areas of Brooklyn or someplace where that name might not be so favorably received.
I love Cohen! However, I'm wary of it because of the religious implications.
Lincoln ought to be spelled "Lincoln." Only. Ever.
My longtime friend's middle name is Kenyan, which is also his dad's middle name. I kind of like it, although it seems like what you'd call a person from Kenya lol. I don't like the "Kenyoun" spelling though.
Not my style at all. Cohen is always a last name to me, and I can't figure out why they couldn't use the traditional spellings of Lincoln and Kenyon (Kenyon is my grandfather's middle name, which is probably why I'm extra O.O about that one).
I love Cohen and I think that would have been the name of our boy, had we had one. I hate how Linkon is spelled (the name Lincoln is nms, but ok), and Kenyoun...? Ew.
It's kind of sacred to them, it means Priest (or something?) And it has to do with the most pure Jewish-lineage. I'm sorry I'm not terribly clear on the details, I just know there's a long-running debate over 'ownership' of the name Cohen, with some Jews taking offense to non-Jews using it. I don't really have a strong opinion on the ownership of the name Cohen, I would just not give my kid that name because I wouldn't want him to pay a price for its potential offensiveness in the future. Then again, I live in a highly Jewish area, so I might just be more sensitive to it.

Date: 2012-02-22 01:25 am (UTC)Cohen is more of a last name to me, but it's not tragic.
Lincoln could be nice, but I don't know what that spelling is.
...Ken-yoon?
