I think it's a little too similar myself.

Which similar named sibsets do you think work? What about themed sibsets like Rose and Violet or Pearl and Ruby do you think work and which don't?

The thing is, it's not like siblings are going to always be around each other. Different classes different friends different colleges and jobs. So it doesn't really matter to me. I'd try to give them unique names but if someone loves Nathan and Natalie that's not a big deal.

For 18 years while living together it could become rather difficult. My mom has a problem distinguishing my name, Jennifer, and my sister's name, Emily, ALL THE TIME, and they couldn't be anymore opposite. I can't imagine if we had similar sounding names...

I think they are a little too close--nothing that I'm like "Wow, that's bad." But I would notice it.

I think themed sib-sets are a little cheesy, but I actually like all the names you listed.

They don't sound that similar, but I don't like that they both start with the same three letters. I prefer the Nathalie spelling, but that would bring it up to four matching letters.

I find I don't mind too much if there are two children and they share the same first initial, but three or more children with the same letter is a bit much. The same goes for names ending in the same letter. Names that rhyme are a definite no.

As far as themes, I guess it is, again, okay for two but not for three plus. I mean, the examples you gave don't make me want to gag or anything. However, Rose, Violet, and Daisy or Pearl, Ruby, and Emerald are just way too much. I guess it comes down to the whole "two is coincidence; three is a pattern" thing. Although, this doesn't stand for a "theme" like using only Gaelic names. To me, that is just making sure names go together stylistically.

I think they're too close, but it doesn't stand out as tragic. They're both lovely names on their own.

I would try to avoid super similar names for my kids, just because I know how much of a tongue twister it can be. I've worked with kids and I was always tripping over their names (one year, I had an Ian, Evan, Noah, Nolan and Nathan in my class, so yeah). I'd imagine it's easier to constantly trip over names if you have all of one sex versus mixed sexes though.

For my own kids, I wouldn't do matchy names, but I think it's fun to play around with stuff in stories or with the Sims when I have the time to play. I will admit to writing a story about triplets names Bridgette, Brea, and Briony. But then I wrote another story where the kids were named Oliver Hans and Liberty Ginger which are two totally different styles. I like to mix it up.
My friend shared an apartment with a Maryn once who had a sister names Marian. That's just WAY to close for me.
As for Nathan and Natalie, I don't think they're that close. I'm a fan of the name Natalie, but I've never cared for Nathan.

I don't think they're that close. They start with the same letter, but I actually really like that for a sibset.

Then again, I may be biased. My name's Kim, my big brother is Kai. See what my parents did there? And I love it. Never had any problems, people could remember us right away and often commented that they really liked our "matching" names.

It's also nice because my brother and I aren't all that close, but I always feel a little more connected to him when I think about our names ;>
