[identity profile] xitalia-girliex.livejournal.com posting in [community profile] babynames
So my husband and I might be prego with our 2nd child! We have a 5 yr old son his name is Caden Anthony ( very common , I know! ) I have a few names I've been thinking of over the years and one that I really like for a girl is: Kinglsey. I do have a reason... Iam very close with my parents and whenever Iam having a bad day I picture myself with them when I was a kid and I picture my dad riding my bike with me and our house was on Kingsley rd. I feel like it would be for them saying thank you for always making me happy! What do you guys think? Honostly is it too out there?

There's nothing feminine about that name, sorry. I think it's got a sweet story behind it, but I really dislike it.

I think Kingsley is a pretty masculine name, although I think Caden and Kingsley sound ok together because they are both rather trendy. I definitely think it would be a good sib-set for 2 boys.

I think something like Kinley would be more appropriate. I'm not wild about Kinley, but it's somewhat similar to Kingsley.

I can appreciate the sentiment behind the name, but honestly, I think it is awful.

Saying it out loud it sort of reminds me of the name Kinzi (which is the name of my hair stylist). Kingsley is very masculine but I also think it's sort of cute and the story behind it is adorable. It's so much more acceptable for girls to be given boy names than the other way around, so I don't think it would be that bad. It wouldn't be my choice but if you love it I say go for it! :)

I like it. I don't have any association with the name, but it pops onto my "maybe" list every once in awhile...

There's no way that name does not say "boy." This may be sexist to say, but I prefer uber-masculine names to be used only on boys. (The trend of naming girls James or Dylan irks me to no end.) Boys have so many names that aren't "theirs" alone. It's like once a name has become unisex, it's effectively feminine - think Hilary, Addison, Whitney, Ashley, Vivian. The only exception I've found is the -aden brigade.

It would work for a middle name, though.

I absolutely love this name (prefer it for a boy, but I think it could work for a girl), but I don't think I'd use it as a first name, personally, because I don't like the nick-name King. It would have a nice association for you though.

or even Kinsley. just to get "king" out of there which to me is what makes it more masculine.

but then, hypothetical baby might be a boy, so...

Kingsley is a nice name, but not for a girl in my opinion. I honestly cannot see it on a girl. Would be good for a boy though.

Meh, I actually like it for a girl.
Better than a boy, tbh.

That sounds super-masculine. Maybe you could use it as a middle name, like Elizabeth Kingsley or Hannah Kingsley or something?

Also, just to warn you: a lot of people around here scoff at "ayden"/"aden"/"aiden"/"aeden" names.

it doesn't sound very girly and it reminds me of harry potter. I'm not really into it, sorry.

I like Kingsley fine for a boy but not for a girl.

It definitely "reads" as masculine, but if that doesn't bother you, I'd say go for it - it's a nice name, easily spelled/pronounced, and has a meaningful association for you. Your daughter will probably have to correct people fairly often, but so do all the little girls named Ryan, Shawn, Dylan, etc.

I think that story is adorable and so sweet, but as others have said, I find the name Kingsley very masculine, probably because it contains the word "king" and that's the most obvious shortening of the name were it to be shortened. Do you have any ideas for a boy yet? Would it be possible for you to switch Kingsley over to your boy's list or are you just too in love with it for a girl? I've seen worse on a girl so if you're really set on it, it isn't awful and it does have a really sweet story to it. I would just make sure to pair it with a more feminine middle name.

It makes me think of Kingsley [Shacklebolt] from Harry Potter.
That is a really masculine name... I'm not a fan in general, but I definitely dislike it for a girl. D:

This. I thought to use it as a middle name too, with an obviously feminine first name. That way you get to use your sentiment without giving your daughter almost wholly boys name.

I don't know how I missed this post when you first posted it, but I hope my lateness doesn't bother you.

Have you found out if you're expecting yet?? How exciting! :)
