[identity profile] pickleshmickle.livejournal.com posting in [community profile] babynames
I posted here not too long ago looking for boy names.  I think we may have found potentially what it might be.  Still won't know for one more month if the potential boy will be a Matilda (fingers crossed, three boys seems like a hella lot to me).

Name?  Alfred.

Opinions?

Our other two kiddos are Oscar (5) and Harvey (2).  My husband also likes the name Bertram (and I in turn sort of like it, I can then maybe, MAYBE sneak in a Song of Ice and Fire reference and call him Bran for short, my husband refuses to name our last kid Tyrion Jamie so c'est la vie).  We promised each other we wouldn't name our kids after any one in the family.  Husband's name is Brendan which means "little raven".  Bertram means "bright raven"  so I personally think that is kind of sweet.

But Alfred seems to go more with our other two boys' names.  Man I hope it's Matilda.  and then I don't have to think of boy names EVER AGAIN!  :)

I like both Alfred and Bertram. I am so into nicknames so Alfie and Bertie would so soooo cute :D I also like your idea of Bran. Bram would be cool too. I think the raven link is really nice too, its like naming after but not really :p

I think either goes well with Oscar and Harvey. Both lovely names too :D

I actually really like Bertram!

And YAY for Song of Ice and Fire references! Arya is actually on my list (I'm 12 weeks pregnant right now), though I sort of want to change the spelling to Aria. I just wish I was more thrilled with the name options for boys! Tyrion was the only one I deemed acceptable, lol.

To me Alfred sounds a little more "old man"-ish than Bertram. I really love Oscar and Harvey though, and I can see Alfred going well with those names! :)

I prefer Bertram over Alfred, personally. Both are nice though.

I like Bertram. Also, could you split the difference and go with Albert? I quite like Albert.

I think Bram would make a pretty badass addition to that sibset.

I'm not really a fan of the name Alfred, but I think it goes really well with Oscar and Harvey. They're all kind of "old man" names. (I don't mean that in a bad way at all!)I don't know how you feel about nicknames, but I think Oscar, Harvey, and Freddie sounds great. I like Bertram by itself better--it actually used to be on my list--but it doesn't vibe quite right with the names of your other kids. Also, I think Bertram to Bran is kind of a stretch. Sorry. Anyway, I would definitely go with Alfred.

My first thought was to use Albert also. I love Bertram though, Bert, Bran or Bram (as someone else said) for nicknames. Not so fond of Alfred.

I'm throwing some love over to Alfred.
I really like it and I think it flows really well with Oscar and Harvey (also great names, btw).

Bertram does as well, but I'm sticking with Alfred.

I love Alfred, especially with the nickname Fred.

YES to Arya! I am in love with the names in A Song of Ice and Fire. Daenerys is my favourite with Arya and Sansa as close seconds.

Personally I like it spelled Arya but apparently each spelling means something different. Arya means "honorable" in sanskrit and Aria means "melody" in italian :)

I really dislike Alfred, as it just screams "old man" to me. =/ (Also, I dislike both "Al" and "Fred".)
It does make me think of Bruce Wayne's awesome butler/confidant, though, lol.

Bertram is...not my style, but...kind of interesting.

(Of the two, Alfred works better with your other kids.)

Oh, I really like both of those names! I really like all your name choices, actually. I think Alfred and Bertram sound equally nice with Oscar and Harvey. :)

Matilda is one of our top contenders for our daughter due in January. LOVE LOVE IT.

If she had been a boy we were considering:
Winston
Winslow
Reid

For you I would also suggest:
Seymour
Gilbert
Linus

Bertram is not too bad (although you do risk the nickname Bert). I think Alfred is one of those old man names that could never be made "cool" no matter who carries the moniker. It makes me think of Alfred E. Neuman but that's most likely an outdated association.

My biggest concern with leaving it as Arya was the reference to Aryan culture, lol. And yeah, the fact that they both mean something different is a little bothersome to me, especially since I was to keep with the Song of Fire and Ice theme. :)

I don't see how you get "Bran" out of "Bertram". "Bert" I could see though. Maybe Bertie. "Tram" but that's ridiculous, haha.

Don't care for Alfred but that's because it was my late brother-in-law's name and he was a very unpleasant person.
