My hubby and I just started thinking of names tonight. We tried before and all we came up with were Tristan and Trinity haha. That was not productive. I love Tristan, but I'm not sure about it, and he doesn't really like it.

So our list so far, in no particular order

Keely or Kele (male)
Ea (like i-ah) (female)
Tiernan (m)
Ryker (m)
Riley (m or f? I dunno)
Siobhan (f)
Finley (m)
Torin (m)
Nathan (m)
Orla (f)
Tireney (m)
Theodoric (m)
Kolten (m)
Kai (Hawaiian, Irish, Native American…) (m or f but f probably)
Malia, Maliah, Maliyah (mary) (mah-lia?)
Malulia (f)
Leilani (f)

We are both Scottish and German. I like Scottish/Irish names. I also like Hawaiian, but not obviously Hawaiian names... we live in HI but we are both ha'oles so yeahh... But my middle name is Mary, and so is my mother's middle name. Both of my grandmothers are named Mary (though one is Mary Lou). And Mary is quite the traditional name in my family, which is why I like the Hawaiian versions, for middle names. I like Theodoric since I've always loved the nic-name Theo, but my brother's name, Derek, is another shorter version of it. My Dad and maternal Grandfathers were named Charles, so it would be nice to have that as a middle name I suppose, or Richard after my father-in-law (hopefully we have lots of boys lol).

Any suggestions of Irish or Scottish names would be great, or any other suggestions or opinions on the names. I know they aren't everyone's cup of tea, but I don't think they're too crazy? Would my kids hate me for these? lol. And our last name is a very Scottish one, starting with M.

My son is Finnian Louis, my daughter will most likely be Orla Elvie. (our surname is a very Irish one, starting with M, I suspect it sounds rather similar to yours!)

Kai has recently become a popular boys name in the UK, I like Ryker but mostly because it reminds me of startrek!

What about Tamlin? Could be M or F.

How does one pronounce Kai? I have an acquaintance and that's his best friend's name, but I've only ever seen it in print, but I think it's a cool looking name so I always wondered how it was pronounced.

I like Colton but with a C. Brian is a nice Irish sounding name that isn't too incredibly overused.

I love Hawaiian names, they're so pretty :)

I don't think your names are crazy. I have unusual tastes but I don't think you have any on your list that would be a horrible name. I'd heard of Kolten once before but it was with a C. For some reason seeing it with K reminds me more of 'molten' so thats the only one I'm put off :p Riley is one of my favourite names too :)

A few Scottish names I like are:

Isobel
Ailsa
Bonnie
Iona

Douglas
Tavish
Ewan

:)

Maybe not now, but when I was growing up, I knew tons of Brians/Bryans.

Yeah, same here. My brother is named Brian and I knew a few others. I have a 2 year old and 9 year old and I am a substitute teacher and I have yet to come across any boys named Brian in the more recent generations. I really like the name, and would have considered it for my son if it hadn't been my brother's name.

My best friend is Hawaiian, her name is Malia (mah-lee-ah)Which means "Calm and Peaceful" and her son's name is Kai which means "Ocean". I love both names, they're pretty. Even my dog has a hawaiian name! haha.

I however am First Nations (Native American) and the name Kai is mainly a Navajo name, which isnt used on males since it means "Willow tree"

I'm a substitute teacher this year too. In the past couple of years I've had a few Brayans and Bryans.
