[identity profile] tokibee.livejournal.com posting in [community profile] babynames
Hello everyone! I recently had a baby girl in August, we decided to name her Milo, her full name is Milo Adrienne Kennedy. I get a lot of mixed reactions when I tell people what her name is. Some people love it, others think it's weird..or a boys name or a cats name. Someone even told me that it was a bad choice for when she gets older. I obviously love the name, and it suits my husband & I's personalities. Just wondering if anyone here has chosen a "different" name for thier child, and how people have reacted.

I think of that as a very masculine name. Even though you spelled her middle name Adrienne, it is still very similar to Adrian. Milo is definitely boy, and Kennedy while unisex, I still think of as a boy name probably because of President Kennedy. While it isn't as bad as a girl I met named Pierce, it is still very "boy."

She will probably be confused for a boy most of her life. It is a cute name though.

I kind of prefer Milo on a girl... I don't find it too masculine.

In my mind Milo is a boy's name. Like that movie Milo and Otis.
I personally have a "different" name that's actually quite common for pets, I hate it lol. (My name is Coco).

I think it is fine. And to be honest she'll probably be proud of its uniqueness when she gets older. On the bright side, if she doesn't like it she can always go by Millie/Mia or her middle name even.

Ah, Kennedy as a last name makes more sense. I have seen it as first/middle names, so I wasn't sure if you just gave her a double middle name. (A lot of people on this site don't post their last names for privacy)

I may be too "old fashioned" but to me Cameron, Jessie, Adrian are all 100% male names. (Aside: I had a great-grandpa Jessie) Cory could go either way, and Dakota I don't see as a real name any more than Seneca or Mohegan would be. And this is coming from a Leslie, so I know my name is traditionally male as well. I didn't say I disliked the name, just that it was masculine.

I haven't met any Milo's personally, but quite a few celebs have named their kid (boy) using it. The most recent one I think being Alyssa Milano.

Personally I think of Milo more for a boy, because I have a close friend name Milo, and he's a man. It's odd for me to think of a girl named Milo, but I guess it would be no more odd than having a man named Ashely in this era.

I think Milo reminds me of the name Dylan, where it's traditionally thought of as a male name, but it still works as a female name. I mean, it's a lot more feminine to me than the name Bobby, but that's a common girl name. But maybe your daughter won't be that feminine, however she turns out I'm sure she'll grow into her name, we all do :) I like it, I think it's unique without going too far into obscurity.

Not a fan, it's too masculine. Mila (like Mila Kunis) would have been better IMO. =) Grandma Milo...?

I've always loved the name Milo. I actually think names are a lot more about the person and their experiences with it than the actual name. Personally I'm a huge fan of gender swap or gender neutral names. Some of my favourite "girl" names are Kyle and Dylan and I just love the name Stacy as a boys' name.

I know a little girl who's nickname is Percy and I've always thought it was the cutest name!

I've always thought Milo was a masculine name, but a girl can totally pull it off. I have a girlfriend who named her daughter Milari, nn Mila. When she was 5, she told my friend she didn't want to be called Milari/Mila and started to go by Milo. She's 15 now and a very sassy Milo. I think your daughter will love it. <3
