Been lurking for a few weeks but my first time with a post. I'm 2 months pregnant so clearly don't know the sex yet.

Huck for a boy, yay or nay?
Wren for a girl, yay or nay?

My husband thinks Huck is too "gimmicky" and would probably prefer it as a middle name. I adore it but wonder if the kid would be tortured in school because of what it rhymes with...

As far as Wren goes, I have absolutely ADORED it from the moment I saw it but he hates it completely. Is is really such a weird name?

Children always find a way to make fun of other children, regardless of their name. My name is Rita, for example, which isn't too strange or out of the ordinary but I got called SeƱor Rita which is fairly clever of second graders since it is both a play on words and takes my hispanic heritage into account. Also Rita Repulsa. Thank you, Power Rangers.

If teasing really is a fear, though, the bonus to it being a middle name is you can still call him Huck and he can choose whether or not he wants to go by it in school without other children knowing it's his name if he doesn't want to use it.

I like Wren too.

I agree that children will find a way to make fun of other kids regardless of their name. Sometimes they will try really hard to twist a name into something rude, even if it doesn't really work.

I like Wren, it is a bit weird but I love weird names!

Wren is a sweet name :D I've never heard it as a name before so I find it very interesting.

I agree with above, it pretty much doesn't matter what a kids name is, other children and even adults with find something to give them a nickname. Most of the time its something fun or a term of endearment :)

I'm not a fan of Huck at all. While kids will make fun of any name, the teasing that could come from that one is worse than most. Huck Finn is also one of my absolute least favorite books.

Wren is not my style, but I don't see anything wrong with it!

Oh, Another one struck me which just goes to show they'll do anything to tease: Rita Rita Pumpkin Eater

Which would have made more sense had my name been Peter or if I liked Pumpkins.

I really like Wren! I think Huck is cute but I'm not sure I see it as a stand alone name. I see it as more of a nickname for a Henry or a Harry. I just think it could be limiting in older age, possibly.

I don't like Huck, sorry. Beyond it rhyming with the F word (which is the first thing I thought when I saw the name) and it reminds me of the hulk and it just doesn't seem like a proper name to me. Seems nicknamey, at best.

I love Wren, though. I knew a woman with this name and she was quite lovely. I don't think it's weird, but it's uncommon.

I don't like Huck as it sounds too much like a nn to me rather than a standalone name. I shouldn't like Wren as it's totally nms, but I really do.

I swear awhile back this community had a general consensus of "no" on Wren, but it's interesting to see it change.

I think Huck sounds gimmicky, but I like Wren for some strange reason. I would never use it, but I think it's kind of cute.

Yeah, I think Huck is a great nn for Henry.

LOL my grandmother was named Rita and we used to tease her with "Rita Rita Smelly Feeta" I don't know why tho. Basically you can make fun of any name, really

Nay to both of them. Huck, I'm just indifferent to; Wren, I hate.

I love Wren. Huck would be a cute nickname to something, but I don't like it on its own.

Like some others said, I like Huck as a possible nickname, but not as a proper name.

On the surface I really like Wren. Realistically, if somebody mentioned to me, and I didn't see it spelled out (which is pretty) I might be like, "Why did they name their kid after Ren and Stimpy?"

I'm 100% with your husband.

Wren is nice in that its different, (as in you don't see it every day), but also kind of classical/literary. Huck is the same. I went to school with a kid named Buck, and I never heard anyone use the obvious joke about that name, but then again he was a pretty popular kid and most people liked him. I can see how it could go either way, depending on your child's personality, so it is right that you give it some thought.

Is Huck going to be short for Huckleberry like Huck Finn? (From the novel by Mark Twain.)

Huck, yuck, fuck, suck... I don't think so.

Wren is quirky in a quirky kind of way. I'm indifferent.

Huck- NAY.
Wren- Isn't horrible, but it isn't really my style either.

Sorry, I'm not a fan of either. "Wren? Spelled like the bird?" "Huck; is that short for Huckleberry?"

Take into consideration how a name will look on a headstone or on a CEO's door... I'd have a hard time with a business executive named Huck. As a nickname or something within the family is one thing, but in Fortune 500? Nah.

Huck.... NO...

I love Huck and think it's adorable!
Wren is a lovely name too, although I've heard it as a boy's name and never a girl's... not to say that it can't be. I like how these names are kind of nature themed (with Huck Finn taking place in nature)

Huck's a guilty pleasure for me; I like the sound of it, but I don't know if I can see it on a kid in this era.

Brad Paisley's son is William Huckleberry and he goes by Huck.

Buck makes me think of Buck Merrill from The Outsiders (speaking of literary names, LOL).
