KINSEY?!

Recently a former classmate of mine had a baby girl she named Kinsey. I was totally disgusted. I sometimes just don't like the names that people choose for their kids, but I don't get utterly disgusted. This time I found the name to be completely ludicrous and can't believe anyone with any education under their belt would choose such a name. That name should be banned.

There is Alfred Kinsey, the father of sexology. He created the famous Kinsey Scale of homosexuality. He made his famous Kinsey Report.

Just how could anyone in their right mind tag that name on a child?!

Uh, why are you "utterly disgusted"?? Because the name has some kind of connection to sex? Are you also disgusted by the name Debbie? Or Ruth?

I think it's kinda cute. I wouldn't use it but to me it's cutesy in the same way all those Kaylee kinda names are and I like it more than Kaylee and others like that...

I kind of like it.

And I've got an education under my belt, too.

However, I doubt they related it to Alfred Kinsey, anyway...

I don't mind Kinsey that much. I saw it the other day in another post in this community (here (http://baby-names.livejournal.com/5833735.html)) and it did make me think of the Kinsey Scale, but I don't get the impression that it's widely known.

Aside from the whole scale thing...I don't think the name Kinsey would age very well.

I don't like the sound of the name but I think your freak out over it is ridiculous.

lol I'm educated (Masters degree, if that counts in your book), and I quite like the name Kinsey.

I thought I was the only one that hated this name. Good to see I'm not!

I think it's about as relevant as Kinsey.

LOL that you apparently got Debbie, though. :)

I've never even heard of Alfred Kinsey... So I still don't REALLY understand the connotation, and don't find it necessary to research the information.

Also Kinsey pretty much sounds like Kenzie which a billion people named McKenzie go by. So I don't think it's that bad. If anything it may be better, since McKenzie would technically mean the son of Kenzie, anyways. So now they're pretty much just dropping the "son of" part, and according to my google chrome Kinsey is a name and Kenzie isn't...

I'd be disgusted if someone named their kid Diarreah... I am educated (Two masters and getting a doctorate) and sure there is the Kinsey scale but how is that disgusting? I mean I don't LIKE the name but disgusted? My dear it seems like ou are overreacting some.

I'm ashamed to say that my college does a "Spring Porn" movie showing at the on campus theater. (The rest of the year they show semi-recent movies, like this weekend is Harry Potter 7)

There are a lot of awful people whose names are given to babies despite what they did, and no one thinks twice.

Also, try the "reply to this" link under the comment you want to reply to.

I have an education under my belt (Masters Degree, pre-PhD program - if that counts), I'm extremely familiar with the work of Kinsey and quite like the name.
Good on the parents for not being locked in the boring-box.

I actually think Kinsey's pretty good. It's sort of cute, but there's something mature about it. For those who want to know, it actually means 'King's Victory' or 'Royal Victory.' So yeah. Definitely gonna use it for a story sometime. :D

It's also unisex and is used in a novel by Sue Grafton. Just a heads up.
