Finally!

After lurking in this community for years and obsessing over my future babies' names...I am happy to announce that my husband and I are expecting our first child in April!

I thought I'd share our current list of names for your opinions...plus the plea for any additional suggestions that fit our style.

Theodore
Joseph
Emmett
Elizabeth
Adelaide
Alice

Finally, we both love the name Hattie. I noticed it was recently mentioned in this community, as Tori Spelling named her daughter this (I SWEAR we loved the name long before!).
Our issue is, we really think it's too much of a nickname to allow it to stand on its own. It is originally a nickname for Harriet, which I'm sorry to announce that we loathe.

Does anyone have any other creative ideas for names that could adopt Hattie as a nickname?

Those were some of our top girls' names, so here are other faves:

Agatha, nn Aggie
Charlotte
Coraline
Zelphia (this was my grandma's grandma's name, it's a form of the Hebrew Zilpah)
Samantha

It looks like Hattie is also used for Henrietta, idk if you like that any better. Maybe Hester or Hestia? You could even swingnit as a nn for Heather, but that doesn't seem like your style.

Congrats!

I like your name choices, particularly: Theodore, Emmett, Adelaide, and Alice.

As for Hattie. I really only think of Harriet. But maybe you could pick another H name and an -ette or -ettie middle name to get the same nickname? Something like Hannah Juliette? It's a bit of a stretch, but it might work.

And a few suggestions:
Leopold
Henry
Charlotte
Eleanor

Aw, I think you should give Harriet a chance, it's such a lovely name and it goes great with your list! Harriet Tubman is a really great connection to the name, too! Love Hattie. :)

Hattie could also be a nice nickname for Henrietta (which I think is kind of ugly, but it could grow on me I'm sure), Hester...Maybe even Mathilde/Mathilda.

Congratulations!

I like every single one of your names to varying degrees.

I think Hattie is really cute. I think it could maybe stand on its own, but I would probably want a more formal name for the full name myslf. Someone mentioned using an H name with an -ette name and you seemed to like that idea. How about Helena, Hazel, or Heloise? The only -ette names I can think of off-hand that I like at all are Cosette and Colette. Ooh, what about Elizabeth? It's a stretch, but -beth becomes Betty so Hazel Elizabeth --> Hazel Betty --> Hattie. Or you could do an H name and a T middle name: Heloise True, Hazel Tabitha, Helena Theodora. Or you could do an H name with a middle that ends in -ty. Helena Verity or Hazel Felicity.

Other names:
Clark
Tate
Linus
Harrison
Thaddeus
Felix
Oliver
William
Alistair

Agatha/Agnes
Beatrice/Beatrix
Margaret
Cora
Clara
Penelope
Louise/Louisa
Sarah

Halette, maybe? She may get Hallie as a nickname too.

I'm so glad someone else said Hattie can be a nickname for Mathilda because that was my original thought when I saw the question. :)

Hmmm. Maybe Halcyon? ;) Kidding.

I like Hattie for Hazel and Mathilde/Mathilda/Matilda (and Mattie, too!) and maybe for Hannah, Hyacinth, or even Hedwig if you want to get a little out there?

I generally love your style! I think Eleanor, Fred(dy), George, August, Lilian, Josephine, Cora, Ginny and Beatrix are right up that alley. Congrats on the bebe!

Another formal name for Hattie could be Hadley. I love the name Hadley on a girl. The only thing I remember from the Ernest Hemingway lectures from my high school English class was that Hadley was his wife's name.

Ohh, Hyacinth/Hattie is brilliant, I never would have thought of that! A little more out there than most of OP's general style, but it still fits well...and hyacinths are such fragrant and pretty flowers!

I love your taste in names, we have very similar tastes...so I had a little too much fun brainstorming. :P Happy baby-naming, can't wait to see the final choice on the birth announcement as I'm sure s/he will be a very well named babe!

My boyfriend is a Theodore (Jr) and he wants a third, so I'm rather partial to it :] I like Emmett and Elizabeth (my sister)' Adelaide and Alice aren't bad but NMS. Joseph is a no for me.

This might be far too late for you to see this comment, but my name is Ashley and I have always had the nickname Hattie. That's just how it came out when I couldn't pronounce my real name. :)
