What are you favorite not-hip retro names? I don't mean retro like Alice, Hazel, or Felix. I mean, things like Bertha, Martha, or Donald. I guess names that were more common in the 40s, 50, 60s, and 70s, instead of turn of the century.

I like Amy, Donna, and Joan. I can't think of any boys names I like that fall into a similar category.

that's because boy names stick closer to classics. John, Paul, Thomas, Andrew... not as big a gap in generations.

I don't much like female names from around when my parents were born, so no real answers to your question.

Love the name Betty! My aunt's name is Betty but it's not a nickname.

I like my grandmother's sib set a lot. She is the baby, born in '42, so the oldest is probably early to mid 30s... spouses and middle names (where known) included, for the heck of it. Even though they're not as awesome, IMHO.

Fleurette/Ralph
Mariette Aline/Jack
Norman/Helen

Should have mentioned, some of those were just middle names...and my people liked to have babies LOL

Thought I'd throw in my grandmother = Barbara Fern, and my parents/siblings
Larry, Diana, Vicki, Allan, Kenneth, and Loretta Jean. There were a couple of Gayles, too, which you don't see much these days (Gail? Gale? lol I don't know).

I love Martha.

For boys, my two favourites are Arthur and Lewis. Definitely not 'hip' (yet?), at least not in North America.

Martha, Marcy/Marcie, Marjorie, Doreen, Brenda, Beverly, Renee, Ruth, Lisa, Karen, Joyce, Gail, Joanne, Diana. Most of these aren't even in my top 10, but they're still nice enough names to me.
