Lola

I'm not pregnant, TTC, etc - this is purely for future reference...

What could Lola be a nickname for? I think it's a gorgeous name, but I feel like it needs to be a nickname for something more serious and/or professional. I know that it's traditionally short for Dolores, but that name doesn't appeal to my senses at all. Any thoughts?

Also, do y'all think it would be weird for a child not of Hispanic descent to be named Lola? Every Lola I've ever known of has been partially Hispanic, and I am most certainly not. :(

I don't think it's too cultural based to be used outside of the culture if that makes sense. It's just a pretty name :)

Lolita could definitely be shortened to Lola. It could be a nickname for Charlotte, but that might be a stretch. Louisa could possibly be in the same boat as Charlotte.

Also, a variant of Lola is Loela. I don't know how you feel about that.

Actually, Lolita is the nickname for Lola (-ita being the diminutive). :)

My cousin's wife's name is Laura and she goes by Lo, surely if Laura can be shortened to Lo, it can be shortened to Lola. Then again I also knew a girl in high school whose name was Laura and she went by Lollie.

Lola always felt like a full name to me... I love it. Like someone said above, Lolita is the nickname for Lola. But I think Lola could be a good nickname for Dolores and Charlotte.

i really like it! the only thing that would put me off is the meaning (of dolores, which it's usually shortened for) which is 'sorrow'.
i can't think of what other names it could be a nickname for- charlotte was a good suggestion!

I'm a new member so I went and looked at that post. The only thing I really have to say is that I don't think the song(s) issue will really be one. I've never heard of those songs (I'm 20) so I doubt it would be used as a teasing thing, especially once you add the years it would take your future child to reach middle school or whenever the teasing would start.

I think that you can really pick any "L" name and use Lola. I've always wondered how Jack came from John, for example
