Does Toby seem like a girl's name to you? I plan on naming my son, who is due in 6 weeks, Toby Scott, but I don't want to use it if people think it's effeminate.

(Just FYI, I'm not asking if you would use the name on a girl, simply if you would think a child named Toby was female or male.)

toby does not seem feminine at all to me. there's a female musician with the name toby, and i thought that was kind of odd the first time i heard of her.

i would never think Toby was a female name.

i like toby scott. i don't think it sounds feminine at all. i just asked my husband what he thought and he said he would assume the child was a boy, doesn't sound feminine to him at all. this is a feat in itself since when i was pregnant and trying to come up with boys names, every name i suggested was too girly for him:)

I think of it as a male name, especially because of the singer Toby Mac :)

I think of the -y spelling as masculine, and the -ie spelling as feminine (I have a female friend named Tobie, which is probably why).

Other than Toby Lightman, I've never heard of Toby as a female name. I'm not saying they aren't out there, but it's definitely a masculine name in my head.

I love the name Toby! Probably because the little boy in the movie Labyrinth was named Toby.

I think Toby is 100% sounding. It may also because I knew a man named Toby, but still for sure a boys names. Toby Scott is a very cute name!

I love the name, and it's definitely a boy name to me. i would be surprised to meet someone named just Toby, though, and not short for anything. i mean, i can't really picture a grown man named Toby and not having another name to fall back on if he went into a business interview, or something.

No way. Toby is 100% masculine, usually a nickname for Tobin, Tobias, etc.

Toby is ALL male to me. I'd never assume a child name Toby was a girl, and if I found out it was, I'd gag.

I'd NEVER think Toby was a girl. It's all boy.

But not really... man. It sounds very childish and nickname-y. I like it short for Tobias.

i'd definitely assume a person named toby was a boy.

I only know males named Toby, so I would automatically assume male when I hear Toby.

If I met a girl named Toby, I'd stab my eye out.

It's all male to me.. the only one I know of is Toby Keith, and I like him, sooooo...

Oh, I also knew a dog named Toby. But he was a boy too.

Boy, masculine for sure
I know of two girls named Tobi (that spelling), still doesn't quite feel right. That's compared to a fair few male Tobys.

Toby Scott is a great name.

Only in the sense that no boys' names are off-limits for girls anymore. I really think of Toby as a male name, but so is Ryan, and girls are using that, so....

Toby is on my top list. :)

nooo it doesn't sound like a girl's name. I could kind of see tryndees liking it for a girl, but so far I think you're safe :)
