I am expecting a little girl, due next month. As my icon shows, we've decided to name her Tatum, and we had pretty much decided on a hyphenated middle name, Dee-Marie. (Dee is my mom' middle name, Marie is my MIL's middle name.)

It's really important to my husband and me to honor both of our mothers by using parts of their names, and Dee-Marie was the best we could come up with. However, I've become more and more discontent with this middle name, and I'm hoping that you all can help me come up with something new.

So, if you had the names Debra Dee and Julie Marie to work with, what kind of names would you come up with to serve as a middle name to Tatum?

Any suggestions welcome, even creative/created names.

**If it helps at all, my first choice for a middle name (if we weren't trying to use our mothers' names) would have been Tatum Jane.**

Just a suggestion. If you really don't like any of those names and/or don't want her to have two middle names, but still want to have your mothers involved in the name. How about you ask your mother and mil to get together and come up with a middle name for the baby. That's what I plan on doing for our next baby (except I'll ask my sisters to come up with the middle name.)

I think Tatum Julie/Julia would be cute. But unfortunately, your mom just has an all around unworkable name when it comes to my tastes.

Maybe you could combine Marie with another De- name? Deirdre, Delaney, Delia, Demeter, Demi, Devan so on and so forth.

Debbie (short for Debra, but also the Deb + -ie from Julie)
Delia (De- from Debra/Dee, -li from Julie, added an uh sound to make it a real name)
Judy (Ju- from Julie, dee sound at the end)
Libra (li- from Julie, -bra from Debra)
Demi/Demie (beginning of Debra/Dee, M from Marie, i/ie from Julie/Marie)
Mara (beginning of Marie, end of Debra)
Brie (Br- from Debra, -ie from Julie Marie)

I like [livejournal.com profile] octobre09's suggestion of having both mothers suggest a name.

You could also look up the meanings of Debra, Dee, Julie and Marie and find names with the same/similar meanings.

I know someone who named her daughter "Merridy." It reminds me of Marie+Dee.

I was going to say something similar to above comment, something like Maridee (pronounced "Mary-Dee")

I think two middle names would be better than an hyphenated middle name. What about Tatum Julie Dee or Tatum Julie Debra?

Dee-Marie isn't horrible for a middle name.

I have a cousin named Ursula Dora-Gloria, under similar circumstances. actually, I think it's one word, not hyphenated, but still with two capitals. DoraGloria. is DeeMarie better? I dunno.

How about Tatum De'juli?? Makes it unique, and pays homage.

Or even Judee, to incorporate the spelling of Dee to make it more obvious where the name came from. I ordinarily wouldn't advocate creative spellings, but in this case, it kind of works.

Debra means "bee" which would be a cute middle name...

Other forms of Marie: Mary, Molly, Moira, Mamie, Maria, Marietta, Maire, Marianne, Marilla, Maren/Marin, Marina, Merry, Amara, Marian

Other forms of Julie: Julia, Juliet, Jules, Jewel, July, Juliana

Tatum Julia Bee would be very cute.

Tatum Julie Bee
Tatum Jubilee (combining Julie and Bee/Dee?)
Tatum Mary Bee
Tatum Bee Marie
Tatum Marina Bee
Tatum Molly Bee
Tatum Juliana Bee
Tatum Debra Jules
Tatum Judy (Julie and Dee combo?)
Tatum Juliet Bee
Tatum Deena Jules
Tatum Juliet Bee
Tatum Marian Bee

Also, what if you used something besides their names to honor them? Like birthstones, birth months, favorite flowers, etc? Or just pick a J and a D name and say it's for each of their initials? Tatum Dorothy Jane or something like that?

Tatum Debra Marie or Tatum Julie Dee sounds best to me.

The other option, if you're planning to have another child, would be to go with Tatum Marie/Tatum Julie, and hold off on Debra Dee until the next child. (I think you could get away with Dee for a boy, if you're planning to have another child but afraid you might not have another girl. I've definitely seen it used as a masculine name before.)

I would go with Debra Marie. I'm not a huge fan of any of the names, but I think this sounds/looks/flows the nicest. I really dislike Dee-Marie and am right there with you on wanting to change it. Tatum is totally NMS, but it's nice enough, however I'd want to pair it with something 'normal', which Dee-Marie is not! :)

Tatum Debra Julie or Tatum Julie Debra? Sure, it's not the 'flowiest' or most stylish name, but they're only middle names, and they would definitely honour your mothers.

I think Dee-Marie is okay, but you could also make a "mash-up"--maybe Daria?

I think "Tatum Daria" sounds lovely.
