Reminds me of when I used to read this comic called Something Positive, and it was revealed that one of the characters, PeeJee, was actually named Penelope Jennifer so that her parents could call her Penny Jenny.

honestly...I wouldn't have noticed the nn if it hadn't been pointed out. I really don't care for Candace so I was sad to see it with a pretty name like Penelope LOL

Penelope Candace doesn't flow very well, but it's a perfectly fine name. Nicknames can be cute and silly so I really don't see the problem. I call my baby, Esme, Ezzy and Ezzers in silly baby voices *shrugs* what's the point of having a child if you can't have a cute little nn for them?!

I'm peeved about Candace, the legit spelling is Candice, from latin "candidus, candida, candidum".
Is Penny Candy a famous character or something? If not, I must say, I don't mind it!
Penny Jenny, on the other hand, would be ridiculous, at any age.

It's not just a silly little nickname said in a silly little baby voice, this is the only thing they refer to her as - on fb & irl. Just Penny Candy.

Candace is a legitimate variation. LJ doesn't even challenge it. ;)



I'm assuming you know 'penny candy' was a term to refer to candy back when you could actually get it for a penny. :) I'm surprised it's not a character name!

A schoolmate of mine was named Penny; her surname was Candy.
She changed it as soon as she got married.

I also know a woman named Candida (nn Candi) who is appalled by her given name.

well, if there's a potential implication that her daughter is "cheap candy", then yeah, I can see people having issues with it!
