I love names from Shakespeare like Viola, Helena and Imogen for girls and Demetrius and Nathaniel for boys. But my biggest guilty pleasure name from a book is Aliena from The Pillars of the Earth. I don't think I would ever name my daughter that, but I love it!
I first heard Branwen and Zillah in A Swiftly Tilting Planet, and have loved them since. I also love Mazarine and Delphine from The Master Butcher's Singing Club, but those are definitely guilty pleasures. And I had never heard of Cosima until I read Animal Dreams, and it's one of my favorites.
Bolded are some of my favorite names ever that I'd love to use some day.
The Iliad/The Odyssey: Ajax Argus Hector Helen Nausicaa Odysseus Paris Penelope Priam
Shakespeare: Bianca Cassandra Desdemona Eleanor Emilia Ferdinand Imogen Iris Katherine Lavinia Margaret Maria Mark Morgan Nell Nerissa Olivia Ophelia Percy Portia Rosalind Rosaline Sebastian Silvia Tamora Ursula Viola
Hunger Games: Clove Gale Haymitch Hazelle Katniss Primrose
I was going to make a Harry Potter list, but that would be so long.
Sarah Dessen uses a lot of names that I love for her characters: Haven, Gwendolyn, Scarlett, Caitlin, Chloe, Lucas, Macy, Delia, Owen (my favorite of any of her characters, ever), Sophie, Emily, Ruby, Jamie (m.)
My favorite boys' name, Landon is from Nicholas Sparks' A Walk to Remember.
Others: Gemma (A Great and Terrible Beauty by Libba Bray) Atticus (To Kill a Mockingbird) Charles, Phoebe, Imogen, Kate, Henry, Duncan, Emilia (Various Shakespearean plays)- I also like William in honor of Shakespeare.
Hermia (Shakespeare) Miranda (Shakespeare) Henry (The Time Traveler's Wife) Elizabeth (Jane Austen) Elinor (Jane Austen) Minerva (Harry Potter) Thursday (The Eyre Affair) Anne (Anne of Green Gables) Diana (Anne of Green Gables) Josie (Anne of Green Gables) Stella (Lucy Maud Montgomery) Fiona (The Giver) Cassandra (The Iliad) Medea (Euripides)
Quentin (The Sound and the Fury), Edmund (Chronicles of Narnia), Melanie (Gone With the Wind), Atticus (To Kill a Mockingbird), Holden (Catcher in the Rye), Zooey (Franny & Zooey), Jack (Gilead), Quoyle(the Shipping News), Fitzwilliam (Pride and Prejudice) and Lysander (Midsummer Night's Dream.).
Emma, Elinor, Catherine, Louisa, Chorlotte, Lucy, and Henry, all from Jane Austen (and Lucy from The Chronicles of Narnia as well). In fact I didn't like Henry at all until I read Austen's novels and now I love it, mostly because of Henry Tilney :)
I'm sure there's more but the only other name I can think of is Maryn, but that came from a movie, not a book.
The only time I've ever seen the name Azucena was in "And of Clay Are We Created," is that where you like it from? I always thought it was a beautiful name because of the story.
