Troubles with middles
Apr. 14th, 2011 12:15 pmI used to post here and on various message boards quite a number of years, but lost interest in names and haven't posted anything for quite awhile But lately I seem to be on a name kick again. So, hi?
Anyways my husband and I do not have any kids, though we'd like some we're just not in that place in our lives. We are 99.99% set on our girl choice which is Astrid June Hicks. I know many people don't include last names in posts but unfortunately I feel as if not many names sound that good with it so I like getting the flow and feel for the entire name. :-) June was his mother's middle name, she passed away over ten years ago. Though I don't watch it I know there is a character named Astrid on the TV program Fringe and I wonder will people think I got it from there? I know as a Tabetha I constantly get asked if I was named after the daughter on Bewitched, and do I want to put a child through that?
The boy is a slightly different story. I thought we were equally set on it now further discussion over it as been started. The first name is Gideon that is set, it's the middle that is causing some trouble. For the longest time I wanted to use my dad's name (and few other relatives name) however my husband would really like the middle to be after one of his two best friends. And also a random name keeps popping up in my head when I think of the name LOL. I prefer middle names that have a personal connection and a story of why you picked it. Because of that I know the "random" name shouldn't be there but for some reason it just keeps getting stuck in my head when I think Gideon.
Here are the choices in alphabetical order. Which do you think is the best overall?

Date: 2011-04-14 04:25 pm (UTC)My favorite Gideon combos are Gideon Richard and Gideon Christopher, I couldn't decide and went with Christopher. Really, though, they're all very decent names. My only criticism is that James sounds like a filler middle name to me, much like Marie or Lynn for girls.

Date: 2011-04-14 05:07 pm (UTC)I don't think most people will connect Astrid to Fringe. Back when Bewitched was on, everyone watched the same shows b/c there were only a few channels to choose from - far, far fewer people watch Fringe than ever watched Bewitched. So some people will think of it, but not most people and I doubt very many will ask about it. My name is Brandy, and I get asked occasionally if I was named after the song (I was) but not all that often. It doesn't really bother me.

Date: 2011-04-14 09:10 pm (UTC)For me, the absolute worst is Christopher. They just don't seem like the same kind or style of name, and just really clash, imo. However, I agree that middle names should have a family connection, so whichever one is the most meaningful to you. :)
