1. What are some possible nicknames for Clementine?

2. Would it be silly to name my baby girl Tatum, when our dog's name is Tater? I know it will drive the dog crazy (which I'm not too concerned about), but does this just seem weird to anyone else to have a name so similar to the family pet?

I can't think of any possible nns that haven't already been mentioned. Clementine has grown on me somewhat since I first heard it, but I consider its lack of decent nns a big drawback.

I like Tatum much more anyway, and I don't think it's too weird with the dog's name.

Clem is all I can think of.

And I wouldn't worry about naming a kid something similar to a pet. How old is the dog? Maybe he'll pass away before it even becomes much of an issue. Or you could rename him. Or you could just live with it, lol. They're not so similar that it's weird.

I think Cleo works for Clementine.

I wouldn't name the baby something so similar to a pet, but that's just my own personal weirdness. I wouldn't want it to seem like I named the baby after the dog or something. Plus maybe it's that I like Clementine so much more than Tatum (precisely because Tatum makes me think "tater")

1) I know you've gotten a pretty comprehensive list of nicknames, but the ones I like are: Clemmy, Emmy, or Tina. Just a personal aside, but I would wait before getting your heart set on a nickname. Choosing the name in advance is one thing, but picking a nickname is a whole other thing. A friend of mine decided on John David "Jack" (although dad was pushing for "JD"), but that very quickly went out the window: he is definitely a Johnny (which both of them always hated).

2) Yeah, I think it would be quite silly. For one thing, there'll definitely be jokes from people who know you well enough to know the dog's name. "Oh yeah, Tatum, you were named after the dog." Then there's the whole issue of when the dog dies. I know it's morbid and terrible of me to say this but... When my dog died, it was hard for me to even think her name. Calling out something similar might make it hard for you or for her to grieve properly.

No, unless you plan on baby being nicknamed Tate. If you really love it, go for it because people mix up their pet names with family members, even when they're not similar. I had a cat that passed recently named "Isis" and my favourite name for a child has always been "Iris". It has meaning and the cat-association wouldn't be considered a bad thing in my view.

How about Darlin'? ;) I think some great nns have already been suggested.

I don't think then pet thing is an issue unless there's a pet with the exact name - we tossed out Frederick because we have a dog named Fred and Luna because my sister has a dog named that.

I was totally going to suggest Lemon, but some one beat me to it. =) Some really great suggestions you've gotten already. I have nothing new to add to the list.

As for the pet connection. It might be a little weird at first, but eventually people won't think about it.

::laughs:: Wow. . .I can't believe I didn't think about that in the midst of all my typing. I know someone named Conrad and I used to call him C-rad. . .which I think sounds better. Now others know I don't necessarily think before I type. Or call people things. . .I have a friend named Livvy and I randomly called her Livvers one time, but then realized that was strange because of the body part/food.

I retract that nickname!

My name is Traci and our dog's name was Daisy. Sure, not very similar until Mom started yelling for one of us and we both came running.
