I was thinking recently about the idea of cute, little middle names; names you wouldn't name your child but that you think have character and are not so run of the mill. I would probably use these names as a second middle name (I know some people are not keen on two middle names, and a lot of the time I'm not either, but short names don't bother me so much).

An example of what I'm talking about:
Tennessee Jane Bunny Thomas. (She is a drummer for a band called the Like.)

My list so far:
Coco
Lulu
Lula
Love
Snow
Petal
Bee
Boo
Song
Poet
Blue

Bloom

If this idea doesn't go against everything you believe about naming a child and you want to play along, what are some quirky middle names you might use? They don't have to be shorter names, just quirky!

I wouldn't necessecily use them, but I like the sound of them.

Girls
Bird/Birdie, Wren, Peach, Plum, Honey, Button, Blossom, Sunshine

Boys
Story, Wolf, Sparrow, King, Poe, Chip, Jem,

I know I've listed them gender specifically, but really, most of them are usable for boys or girls =]

A few people in my area have been using Bean as a middle name, for both boys and girls, because they referred to their baby as "the little bean" during their pregnancies.

I've always thought Rue was totally adorable, but it's hard to get over the word rue vs. the herb. I think Bee is totally adorable.

Oh, I'd actually consider Sunshine as a mn. Forgot about it but saw someone above mention it. I love it and it would be significant to me.

I would spell it Bea, like the nn.

I like Blue and Lulu.

I knew a little girl named Zuzu Petals (not sure about spelling).

This is kind of what I did with my son. His middle name is my grandpa's last name, which is definitely not anything but a surname. I thought about doing 2 middle names, but the more I thought about it, the less I liked that idea.

I think this is cute, but there is a brand of tampons and pads here in New Zealand (possibly also Australia) called this. I can't take it seriously anymore. :(

Heh, I'm in NZ and I've never seen them. But then I've only had 2 periods since Jan 09, so...

I knew a half-Korean girl (I think it was Korean) whose middle name was Song. She liked it because it worked in both languages and had pretty meanings in both.

Zuzu is cute, but... Petals is a little much!

I always want to give Bea two syllables, though I know that's not right...
