I met a guy named Jeremiah over the weekend and one of the nicknames his friends were calling him was 'Miah. Surprisingly, I found it to be a charming nickname. WDYT - is 'Miah an acceptable nn for a male named Jeremiah? The name is probably going to sneak its way onto our short-list of boy names because I've fallen HARD for it since actually hearing it used on a real person :)

I knew a Jeremiah who went by Miah instead of Jer or Jerry. I never thought anything about it. It didn't seem feminine to me. It just suited him. I quite like it, a lot better than the alternative nicknames.

I've heard it before, kid I went to elementary school with. It's nms, but I don't hate it either.

Yeah, someone I knew in high school was named Jeremiah and went by Miah. Likewise, I also went to school with someone named Christopher and went by Topher. Long story short, I think most nicknames are acceptable.

I have met some Jeremiahs who went by Miah.
I do like the name Jeremiah, but I myself would probably rather not use Miah as a nn.

It sounds girly at first but I could get used to it. I know a Josiah who went by Si. Love that!

I love Jeremiah, but not Miah as a nickname for it. I think I'm biased, though. Jeremiah is my brother's name, and the only thing he'd respond to until high school age was Jerry (which I also don't like). If I'd ever called him Miah, he'd probably have punched the everloving crap out of me. So my gut reaction is, "Don't call him Miah! Save yourself! Nooooooooooooo..."

My son is named Jeremy and we nicknamed him Remy (to earmark him for a lifetime of boozing, obviously). We didn't like Jerry, etc. Miah is fine, though!

I've liked Jeremiah for a good while and Miah is the nn I would use for it.

I actually knew two Jeremiahs called Miah! I thought it was a rather common nickname, but I always had the urge to call them Micah, because it seemed more appropriate for a man, and I was always mentally correcting myself. Both were slightly older than me, late twenties. One of them mentioned he hated Miah as a kid because of the teasing, but now he really liked his name. It has always struck me as a soft, friendly sort of name.

Personally, my favorite nn for Jeremiah is Jem, followed by Remy, which I suppose works better for Jeremy. But I like Jeremiah better than Jeremy, so I say go for it if you love it! :)

I know a Jeremiah who goes by Miah, so it's totally normal/acceptable to me. :)

It's a little too close to Mia for my comfort (and I think that most people who saw it written down would assume that it was a weird spelling of Mia), but I wouldn't call it unacceptable for a boy, especially if it's only a nick-name.
