Molly or Mallory?

And why?

Mallory. Molly feels like too much of a nickname to be used as a first name to me, although I do love the name.

I like both, but Molly is definitely on my list.:)

Molly. Mallory is the awkward ginger kid from The Baby-Sitters' Club.

HAHAHAHA I just checked Behindthename.com for Mallory, apparently it means 'unfortunate' in Norman French. Poetic naming choices from Ann M. Martin, who would've thought.

Yep. This. I've always disliked the name Mallory because of those books. =)

Yeah, I guess it comes from "malheur" which does mean unfortunate but I don't necessarily get Mallory from that. I totally had forgotten about the Babysitter's club, lol!

Molly.
Molly is a little nickname-y and childish to me, but I find Mallory ugly, so there you go. ^^ (Also, it makes me think of Mallard ducks, haha.)

Molly. I've liked it since I was a kid. Though, it may be because of my dearly loved American Girls doll. =)

I like the sound of Mallory more, but Molly has a much better meaning, even though I think of it as a nickname. (I've never known anyone called Molly when that wasn't actually her real name, but it just feels 'nicknamey' to me.) If I had to name my daughter one or the other, I'd go with Molly.

This! I love the name Mallory, I just wish it had a different meaning, though :/

From "malheureux" (adjective), pronounced mal-er-EUX ("EUX" as "ea" in search) -bear with me, I know it's a ratty explanation

Molly. Because it's my name :) Plus even if it wasn't I like it better than Mallory. For some reason I detest the name Mallory.

Molly. IDK why, but Mallory sounds like vegetable to me.

Molly beacause Mallory sounds so 90s to me.

Molly, because every Mallory I've ever met has been a stuck up, self righteous bitch.

Molly. My cousin's wife is Molly, and she is very pleasant, happy, and fun. Also, Molly seems kind of pirate-esque to me. I love it.

Mallory- all I picture is a snotty, annoying, frizzy, red-headed, ugly little girl with thick green glasses and buck teeth. This may be because I read a book when I was younger with a girl of this description and it always stuck with me.

I think I would like the name Mallory better overall if I hadn't disliked every Mallory I've ever known. Isn't that awful? People can easily ruin names for me, and I hate to say it, but I've never met a Mallory that I liked.
Every Molly I've known has been sweet and simple. So Molly wins.

God, neither. They're both horrendously ugly. But if I have to, Molly. Because it's ugly, but at least it's not super-dated too.

Molly. I think it is pleasant enough and classic. Mallory I just...really dislike. It also seems a bit dated.
