My boyfriend and I are having a child in October. We decided to use a family name that we both agreed on.

If we were to have a girl she would be named Anna Catherine after our mothers. My mom passed away last August and it was very important for me to name our future little girl after her.

But, SURPRISE!, we found out at our 20 week u/s that we are having a boy. We settled on the name Frederik John after his great-grandfather and grandfather. I realize that is definitely not everyone's cup of tea but we enjoy it greatly.

Out of curiosity do you prefer the spelling Freddie or Freddy for a nickname? I'm a bit torn.

My brother spells it Freddy, but Freddie has really grown on me.
A good choice either way :)

I prefer the y because ie seems feminine.

this was going to be my response. Freddy for a boy, Freddie for a girl.

I love the name. :)
And I'm a bit torn with the nickname too; I kind of like them both, but would probably just use Freddy.

I prefer Freddie, but Freddy seems more boyish to me, probably because one of my best friends (who's a girl) is called Freddie.

Freddy! Freddie looks feminine to me.

I actually really love the name! I like both nicknames but I think I'd go with Freddy, just because Freddie seems a bit feminine to me, with the 'ie' ending.

I LOVE Frederik for a boy. Very underused, I think.

I like Freddy better. But I actually like Rik a lot for a nickname, too. It's more modern, I think, but Fred/dy is a great choice. I just thought I'd suggest a different one that might not have occurred to you.

I adore Frederik (though I do prefer the Frederick spelling, but it's a fantastic name no matter what) and I think Frederik John is amazing. It's actually a combo I've tossed around myself, lol.

I prefer the Freddie spelling, probably because of that guy up there in my userpic (who plays a Freddie).
