It is my understanding that "John Thomas" is British slang for "penis". :X That said, I'm in the US...it's my dad's name (first and middle), and I love it.

Why not Beckett for a boy? I think that'd be great! If you insist on keeping it a girl's name, I think Zara Beckett sounds best =).

Of your choices, I like Lena, Gia, Gemma, John Thomas and Ethan Grant. The name Wilson is very nice, too, and the fact that it was your father's middle name makes it even more special.

I found it pretty hard to come up with new combinations for your names, because most end in the same vowels, which makes them flow weirdly when paired together (Lena Zola, for example). I took the liberty of pairing some of them with other names to see if you might like them ;).

Gia Esme
Gia Christine
Gia Faye
Gia Madeline

Gemma Noelle
Gemma Elyse
Gemma Sadie

Lena Sophie
Lena Morgan
Lena Claire
Lena Giselle

Zara Natalie
Zara Paige
Zara Juliet

Gianni Liam
Gianni Christopher
Gianni Tate
Gianni Tobias

Layton Rhys/Reid
Layton Beckett
Layton Miles

Zander is quite nice, but wouldn't sound great with your last name, at all.

Weird....we're French/Cajun and from the south, too! (Louisiana, obviously.) I'm currently pregnant with our third child and John is a strong contender if this baby is a boy!

Ah, I didn't know that! Well, I still think Lena Claire sounds nice ;)

& You're very welcome! Best of luck! =)

I really like some of these -- Hallie, Lena, and Zara are all great, as are John and Ethan.

A couple things: I would be careful with the spelling of Chloe. Chloe is cute and classic; Khloe looks trashy and reminds me a LOT of the Kardashians. Khloe is a much trendier spelling, which will likely go out of style quite quickly. It's gaining popularity now because of the Kardashians, but in about five years, everyone's going to be like, "Um, why did you spell it with a K?" And if you AREN'T doing it because of Khloe Kardashian, then even more reason to just go with Chloe. That's how people will assume it's spelled, and trust me, having to correct people on the spelling of your name CONSTANTLY is so. freaking. annoying.

I also like the sound of Zander/Xander, but I think it's one of those names that might not grow so well with a child. It's so Buffy the Vampire Slayer, I think. Besides, it's generally spelled Xander. Something to consider: maybe use Alexander as the full name with Xander as a nickname. That way, if he likes Xander, you're set, but if he grows up and decides, "I'd really rather be Alex," he can do that, too.

I'd be careful with the name "John Thomas." It's a slang term for penis. It's a nice name and all, but I think John Wilson or John Ari might be a better choice.

Oh: or, John Beckett. It sounds awesome, and I think it's much better suited for a boy than a girl.

I don't know, they used "John Thomas" on Sex & the City, so I think it might be at least pretty well known in the U.S., too.

We're originally from New Orleans (me) and a tiny town called Luling (my husband) about 30 minutes outside the city. If you loved Lafayette you'd love New Orleans!

I am American and that is the first thing I think when I hear the name. I know a little guy who goes by J.T. (and his last name is basically the equivalent of Macho, so all in all it's not a good combo!).

Poor kid! As far as I know, my dad never had issues with it until my friends and I discovered what it meant in high school. :oP

Along with previous commenters, I think: Beckett would be better for a boy; Chloe is WAY more classic and CLASSY than Khloe; Alexander is a nice, classic name and Zander/Xander can be the nickname. I also think that Tate would be better on a boy, although it does sound good with Gemma.

I don't know about the whole John Thomas thing, I know a Jonathan Thomas (goes by Jon) and I've only ever associated it with Jonathan Taylor Thomas, lol. But then again I'm 21.

The names I really like:
Girls: Gia, Hallie Elizabeth, Gemma, K Chloe Zola, Lena

Boys: John Thomas, Z Alexander Heath, Ethan Grant, Wilson, Beckett

Combinations I like using only the names you have provided:

On the whole I think you have some really good choices here, though I like some better than others, of course. The only girl one I really can't like is Khloe. Chloe would be fine, but Khloe... no offense, it really comes across as trashy to me. I think my favorite from the girl list is Zara. (And no, I don't think the Z is a problem. I don't think I would have even noticed if you hadn't asked.)

Your boy's list I'm not as keen on. I have to agree with those who pointed at the slang meaning of "John Thomas"--it was the first thing I thought of (and I am in the U.S.). I'm not a fan of Gianni or Layton at all--Layton I just don't like, Gianni seems doomed to cause confusion (Johnny? Gianna?). But I love Zander Heath and Ethan Grant. I don't know which to choose, between those two... Ethan is a long-time favorite of mine, but Zander is more unusual, so it's a toss-up.

my name is zahra so i love zara! it's a great name, easy, international... works in French and English (and Arabic and Hindi and Spanish, etc...) :P

also really like Gia out of your list! Lena is quite sweet. not a fan of chloe/kloe or gemma much- a bit cutesy for my taste.
