I'm sort of torn of naming laws. I think there are some names that people shouldn't use, but that's just my taste. I wouldn't want somebody to tell me I can't name my kid something because it might not fit some arbitrary rule. I guess I can't really support them.

I really can't believe that's true. Even people with the most "normal" of names can come to hate them. They might hate them even more if, since it's on a relatively short approved list, they're one of several in their class.

While people do abuse the right to name your kid just about anything here in the US, I'm glad that we don't have the restrictions that some other countries do. I think the idea that your child's name has to indicate their gender is incredibly outdated.

If it weren't so petty an issue compared to the nonsense we have to deal with right now, I'd totally support a naming law for the USA. Of course, the bill/law would probably be extremely divisive, considering the diverse demographics of this country, but it seems like such a great idea.

For my country, I'd love to see a naming law that disallows

[*] All kre8tyve/illegitimate spellings, with some exceptions (e.g. Madelyn is okay because it's common and not ridiculous; I'd strongly support a legal spelling of Caitlin)
[*] Anything made up (Go figure, Jadon is a Biblical name, and I think Jaden is crisp enough to work, but Jayden/Jaidan/Jaedyn? No.)
