[identity profile] familyguez.livejournal.com posting in [community profile] babynames

So, I have a daughter already, her name is Aida, pronounced like Ada not the opera.

My husband and I are going to start TTC this fall, and we have been talking alot about names and how much we want a boy. However, I just found this girl name that I'm totally head over heels in love with and I am now desperately hoping for a girl just so I can use the name.

Nona

What do you think?

Aida & Nona. Her full name would be Nona Emery Lee Rodriguez. I am just obsessed with this name now! I think its the best thing since sliced bread.

So, make it or break it for me.

It's not my style, but I think it's a nice name and it sounds wonderful with Aida!

Nonna is grandmother in Italian so it just seems really wierd as a little girl's name to me.
But then I work at a school in an Italian area so I hear it daily (also ruined Zia [Aunt] for me) ymmv

I love Nona. We have a neighbor with this name, and it really made me like it because she's just the perfect embodiment of it. Nurturing and quirky. Sounds great with Aida.

I think grandmother, but if you don't love in an are a with a lot of Italians it might work.
I really love Emery and think it would work great as a first name and goes with Aida.

I like it. It first hit my radar on a true crime show (dead girl's name) but despite how I met it, its still cute. I think the whole name works. Good job! And Good Luck!

Well to be honest the first thing it makes me think of it Nonna or Nanna... so grandmothers. Which is of course not a bad association! Just probably not something I'd name my kid.

Love it! There's something very sweet about Nona, and I'm surprised at how little I see it used (basically, never).

Like a few others have said, I also think of grandmothers.
I don't like it.

Nona is the feminine form of "ninth" in italian ("nove" is the number nine)
Also, "nonna" means grandmother in italian.

I never realized your daughter's name was pronounced like Ada, I thought it was Ah-ee-da.

It sounds like something a kid would call their grandmother. And as I read the other comments, I realize there's a reason for that. Other than that, I personally think it's quite ugly, and I don't like sibsets that match, and Aida and Nona do that for me, just because of the ends.

I like it. My friend's sister is named Norah and they call her Nona a lot, so I associate it with her rather than grandmother.

I also think of grandmothers. I prefer Nina or Nora.

This is my great aunt's name. She is about umm. 55, but she is pretty sweet lady. Never cared for her name though. :O

My aunt's BFF is named Ramona and they cal her Nona for short. She denies being "Ramona" and only goes only by Nona. LOL I think Nona is a pretty name and it works well with Aida! Good luck TTC!! <3

To me, Nona and Nonna have different pronunciations. Granted they're not drastically different, but different enough to my ear that I would hear Nona and not think of Italian grandmothers.
I also went to school with an Aida pronounced the same way. I love Aida, not a huge fan of Nona in general but it's not horrible, and it goes nicely with Nona.
