[identity profile] riesiel.livejournal.com posting in [community profile] babynames
My husband and I are currently trying for a baby, in the meantime we have been discussing names. We have decided on at least three names for boys that we agree on, but the girls names are a bit more difficult.

For the boys names we have agreed on:
David
Isaac
Alonzo

For the girls names we have narrowed it down to the following:
Riesiel
Faeryn
Aalia
Eva
Fae
Sariah
Aria

We are currently trying to get opinions from people regarding the girls names. So what do you think? Any you like more than others?

David - okay, kinda boring
Issac - should be spelled Isaac, then the best boys name
Alonzo - not my style

Riesiel - definitely not my style
Faeryn - interesting; I kinda like it
Aalia - definitely not my style
Eva - second best after Aria
Fae - not my style
Sariah - not my style
Aria - best girls name

I like David and Isaac (spelled like this). Alonzo is fine, just not my style.

Of your girls' names, I only like Fae, Eva and Aria, although Eva is a little boring in my opinion. Still a good name, though. Have you considered using Faye? I love it spelled like that.

I'm a big fan of unusual names, but I think Riesiel, Faeryn and Aalia all look too made up to like. Sariah is reasonably ok, but I prefer Zaria or Zariah...so much prettier, and an actual name! It's an Arabic name meaning "flower" or "blossom", which I think is really nice.

I like all the boys names and really like Aria, Fae, and Faeryn. Faeryn is definitely my favorite.

I love Alonzo. Isaac comes second (if spelled correctly). David bores me but is fine.

It seems like you're into time-tested boys' names and really airy-fairy girls' names. I realize this is common (compare the lists of top 1000 male and female lists in terms of made-up or contemporary choices and you'll see males are far more frequently given "solid"/traditional names), but it still weirds me out a bit.

David is okay, but...kind of boring.
Isaac is the best of the three, imo.
Alonzo is okay, but isn't my style.

The girls'...are not my style; some of them look really made-up. Eva, Fae, and Aria are the best.

I like Eva pronounced eh-va, not EE-va. Sariah is cute, Aria is cool. Not really feeling the others. Other suggestions: Phaedra/Phedre (pn basically fay-dra or feh-dra), Eveliese/Evaliese, Evelee (ehva-lee), Evolet, Illyria, Inara, Oriana, Melia, Reveille (rev-a-lee)

Your girl names remind me a bit of a friend of mine. She named her first Iris and her second Oria (pronounce Oh-RY-uh, kind of like Mariah with an O). Both those names seem like they could fit on your list. Seems like you go for girl names with a bit of fantasy in them. They are a little out there for me, I'd prefer a "normal" or more recognizable version of the names to avoid constant misspellings and mispronunciations. For example, Riesiel could become Liesl or Anneliese. (I don't know how to pronounce Riesiel, I'm just guessing it is somewhat similar to Liesl.) In fact every time I've typed Riesiel I've had to go back to your original post to see how to spell it! Great internet handle, not so great for a common name. Faeryn could be Taryn, Aalia could be Ariel or Adina or Elora, Sariah could be the obvious Sarah or Susannah or even Samara. Some other names that seem like they could strike your fancy:

Miel
Miette
Liora
Leona
Lena
Mara
Katia
Aurora

David is okay. I see that it's a family name with a lot of connections so I can definitely understand using it.
Isaac is a pretty good name.
I don't care for Alonzo.

I don't like any of your girl's names, but I could most see Faeryn, Eva, Fae, or Aria being used. Sariah reminds me of psoriasis.

I know you've gone through lots of lists, but sometimes you see so many you can't really take them all in. So here are a few other names that may catch your fancy.

Juniper
Merritt
Mina
Sidonia
Bronwen
Ceridwen
Lina
Leta
Stella
Ivy
Mira
Esme
Petra
Phoebe
Daphne

I know you didn't ask for suggestions so I hope you don't mind. I tried to give a mix of styles while still staying a bit offbeat. :)
