Also, yesterday, I stumbled upon the show 9 By Design. The couple, Robert and Courtney (actual spelling unknown), have six kids with one on the way. Children are as follows:

Wolfgang, nn Wolfie (11)
Bellamy and Tallulah (10)
Breaker (8)
Five and Holleder, nn Holly (3)

The story with Five is that they were referring to the baby as Five when they thought they were having a singleton and it stuck. Five and Holly are both boys.

Names for number 7--if a girl, Liberty Grace --if a boy, Geronimo (wife vetoed), X (wife said he was being silly and that's mean), Major (both liked)
She was going into labor as the episode ended so I guess you find out the name on the next one.

My thoughts:
Wolfgang isn't my style, but it's not awful. Bellamy intruiges me. I think I kind of like it. Tallulah is on my list. Breaker is ridiculous and Five would be fine as a non-name-related nn, but seems a bit cruel to legally reduce your child to a number. I don't like Holleder, but as someone with a weakness for girly nns on boys, I kind of like Holly. Liberty Grace isn't my style, but she could always go by Libby, which I think is cute and anyway, it's nowhere near as bad as some of the names they've already used. I don't like any of the boy's names they discussed.

Bellamy is awesome.
Tallulah is nice enough.
Holleder I could be persuaded on.

Breaker and Five are attrocious, as is Major. I am personally over this Liberty thing, especially if paired with Grace or some other fluffy thing. Virtue names are nice, but nationalism isn't, and that trend stinks of it.

I love Tiernan. I also love Tierney, although it is one syllable off from tyranny.

I know, right? I'm hoping he was joking about X, but I've only seen the one episode so I don't know what his sense of humor is like. Apparently, the grandmother was trying to get Five's name changed for awhile. They're pretty cool/cute kids though, very savvy.

I was thinking patriotism rather than nationalism, although they have a picture of the president in their entryway. That struck me as a bit odd.

I couldn't figure out (on the preview episode) if some of the kids were boys or girls.

I don't like the nn Wolfie. Actually of all those names the only one that's even ok for me is Tallulah. But I dated a guy named Major who turned out to be a really crazy jerk so I think that colors how I feel about it. But I am not sure I would have liked it anyway.


Five is perhaps the craziest name I have heard in a long long time.

I like Holleder and I want to like Bellamy for some reason. I would've gone with Seven rather than Five, if I knew I was gonna keep popping out babies. I thought they were all pretentious children playing house... I wonder what their middle names are. Also, it's Major. I like it better than Liberty. That would've seemed normal with the other names and I don't like virtue names.

Huh. Usually, I don't mind the mother's maiden name in a child's name, but Major is hypermasculine and it seems pretty weird on a girl, even as the middle. But it's important to the family so it still gets a pass.

Thanks for letting me know. I couldn't remember what time it was on to try and find out. I think Major fits with their boys' names and Liberty would have fit with their girls' names. I, too, wondered about their middles.

For some reason I decided to google show and the mom's name is spelled Cortney. And the baby was a boy named Major. If you were curious...
