Middle name to a first name?

I really like the name combination Clara Evelyn. But I also really like Evelyn on it's own. 

Would it be weird to have a daughter named Clara Evelyn and another daughter whose first name is Evelyn?

My husband's name is Jacob Isaiah, and his younger brother is Isaiah. I always thought that was so weird! My MIL must have REALLY liked the name Isaiah, LOL.

My best friend is Brenna Catherine and her sister is Katherine. (When her mom was pregnant with her sister Brenna informed her parents that they could name the baby whatever they wanted but that she was going to call her Katie. Brenna got her way. lol) I really don't see it as a problem unless your planning on going around calling the older child by it's full name all the time.

My mn is Mary and my sister's name is Mary Kate, but because she goes by her first and middle name and I just go by my first it works out fine.

I think in this case, though, I'd try to find something similar to Evelyn to use as the mn rather than reuse the name.

I would find it strange that out of all the millions upon millions of names in the world, you couldn't find another name you liked enough to give your children separate names.

On the other hand, my parents could only agree on two girls' names, and they knew they wanted two kids. Just in case, they didn't give my sister a middle name — and then sure enough, they had another girl (me) and gave me the other name they liked. So neither of us have middles.

Hmm, I've wondered the same thing.

My step son's middle name is James and we decided last time I was pregnant to give our son the first name James (it's also a name of a close friend I lost several years ago, my SO's middle name and his father's name, as well). Well, I had a girl, so we moved on.

I didn't think it was that weird at the time, but now I'm sort of uncomfortable with the idea.

That said, since it's my SO's middle name and my step son's middle name, I was thinking of using it as a middle name if I have a son this time around.

If you really like the name I don't think it's odd. Your only issue would be if Clara hated her name and preferred to go by her middle name and it's the same as her sisters. (I have a friend who named her daughter Clara btw and I love that name)

It would be kinda awful if Clara hated her name, as I picked it because it was my great grandmother's name. I like Evelyn with the nn Evie, but I don't like Evie enough on it's own. Maybe they'd have to pick who's Evie and who's Evelyn.

I would not do it myself but I know people who have done it and it doesn't seem that weird to me, honestly.

I love Evelyn, by the way. It's my eldest daughter's name. :) And Clara is pretty, too. Good taste!

I think that there are so many other beautiful names out there to use that it's a bit silly, but that being said, my friend's family is (in age order): Sandy Lee (m.), Celeste Marie, Carrie Leah, Elise Gay, and Leah Frances.

Yes, I think it would be weird, and it might make both of your daughters feel like they didn't have names of their own, if you know what I mean. I'd either use it as a first name or a middle name for one daughter, but not both.

I think you should name each child as though you will never have another child to name in the future. Because you might not (have another child or have another girl child). It's a little weird for siblings to share names.

I would think it strange, but thats just me lol. I worked with a family where all of the sons had the same middle name and a family where the sons were named John, Johnathan, and JonJon...so strange exists lol

Don't see a problem, myself - historically giving the same first name to siblings used to be, if not common, done enough to be noticable...

When all is said and done, a second name is an extremely minor part of one's life.

Hmmm I know a girl who is called Evelyn and her real name is Erika.

I think Evelyn Clara sounds better than Clara Evelyn.

I've always thought giving the same name to siblings is weird, yes. I saw a birth announcement once where they had like 7 kids, and 4 of them were boys including the newborn and they all had the same middle name. I thought that was weird too. It was one of those filler middle names though but still, I found it disturbing that they didn't have enough sense to give their kids different names.

However Evelyn is a nice name :)

LOL. My maternal great-grandmother is an Evelyn, but her first name is actually Clara; her mother was also named Clara Evelyn. Maybe you could name your daughter Clara Evelyn and just call her Evelyn? Even if no one else does, she'll be *your* Evelyn. Or you could give Clara a different middle name and have a Clara AND an Evelyn. I'm not one to judge anyone for their name choices, but there's so many beautiful names with a similar feel, you know?

I feel like if you did that, you would have to give Evelyn her sister's MN of Clara, otherwise Clara may wonder why she shares Evelyn's name, but Evelyn doesn't share her name. So you'd have Clara Evelyn and Evelyn Clara, which is odd.

There are lots of other pretty names out there to chose from!
