Hate it only because I've never in my life met a Kate who wasn't a huge, evil, soul-eating, hell-raising bitch.

I prefer Kate to any of the other forms. I think it's so different than the others, and also if you used a "full" version, nn could be something else too easily.

Exactly. I think Cait is better for standing alone, because of the spelling. It seems right. Kate is more obviously from Katherine or Katelyn or something.

I like Kate better than Cathy or Cait, but think of it as a nickname. As for which names Kate is a nickname for, I guess all the variations of Catherine, such as Katherine, Kathryn, Catarina, Catalina, Katrina, Kathleen...

I think Kate can stand alone in many cases, but I'm not sure if I like it paired with your last name--maybe too alliterative. As a (former) Katie K., I know all too well how annoying it can be to have alliterative names!

I do think Kate makes an awesome middle name, as I know someone who recently named her daughter Alyssa Kate.

Kate can be a nickname for Katherine, Katelyn, Kathleen, Katrina, Katerina, and maybe even Katia.

And don't forget another way to spell it: Cate, just like Cate Blanchett!

I've always kind of hated this name; I don't find it at all pretty. =/

I'm Katherine but always go by Kate. While I think it can stand alone, I've always been kind of thankful to have the more formal Katherine to fall back on.

Awww. I'm Kate and while I do like to eat souls, I don't think that automatically makes me evil. :oP

I'm "just Kate" and I've always loved my name. It ages well and is just feminine enough (I don't love super girly names).

I normally don't like alliterative names but I actually think Kate Crosbie works well.

:P Well maybe you're the exception to the rule.

Let's just say I've had 6 girls names Kate try to cause me serious injury, either physical or personal. One drove me to swallow three bottles of extra-strength fast release tylenol and a bottle of Ambien in HS. The only one I like is my 8-year-old cousin Katie, but she's turning out to be a little hell-raiser too!

My middle is Kate. Just Kate. After a cousin whose full name is Katharine but goes by Kate, but for some reason my parents just stuck with Kate.

I prefer Kate. I think it works really well as a middle name. I wouldn't use it as a first name (but that is just me!). I prefer Kate to the names that it is derived from.

I like Kate Crosbie.

I know a Catherine who goes by Catey. I also know a "just" Kathy and "just" Katie as well.

Cate Blanchett seems to rock the nn name haha, dont' know if it's short for anything but she lets it stand alone.

I know a Katie where that's her given name, (mother's name is Katherine) and she said she dislikes that everyone ALWAYS assumes its short for Katherine and gets her confused with her mother.

Kate is similar and might have the same issues.

I like the name though.

Feel that Cait would have to be an abbreviation of Caitlin and doesn't stand alone as well as Kate does.
