[identity profile] smallandneedy.livejournal.com posting in [community profile] babynames
My friend has a friend who just had her second son. The first one is named Howl, and the newborn is named Oliver.
I love Oliver but I don't like it with Howl. Might just be me, but I find it weird to pair those two names in a sibset. Oh well.

Another name I saw on facebook:

Amiee.

Had it been spelled correctly, I'd be so happy. But no. *sad face*

And lastly, this lady on TV back in Norway, who hosts the kids tv stuff, had a son 3 months ago and she named him Cajus.

Opinions?

If Cajus is the Norwegian spelling for the Latin name Caius, I think it's awesome. Pronounced K-EYE-us, right?

My sister's name is Amy. I prefer the traditional spelling but I've actually seen that other one before.

...Howl? o.0 Uh. Cute name for a dog I think. She should have named the other kid something equally strange, at least.

I like Caius too, spelled like this as [livejournal.com profile] aquilinum mentioned =).

Part of me secretly likes Howl for its literary aspects (as in, Allen Ginsberg's poem) but I can't take it seriously as a name =).

Howl? Lol, I'm currently reading "Howl's Moving Castle." =) It's absolutely horrible as a RL name, though. D:

Amiee- Yea, bad spelling. =(
Cajus- I agree that Caius is prettier, but I don't like the name overall.

Are you sure it wasn't Aimee? That's the French spelling and perfectly acceptable.

Howl makes me lol.

Howl is terrible. I love Oliver though. But yeah, they really don't go together.

Amiee is bad.

I know the J isn't said the same as in English, but that spelling just makes me think of cajun, like New Orleans food and stuff. Caius isn't really something I had heard of until I read the comments, but I kind of like it. So yeah, I guess Cajus is fine in Norway.

Howl? Like a werewolf cry? What a terrible name!

Are you sure it's "Howl" and not "Howell (http://www.behindthename.com/name/howell)"?

Howl? It makes me think she is either a huge Allen Ginsberg fan, or slightly obsessed with werewolves. And it does sound weird with Oliver. (When I hear "Oliver" I think of small, orange kittens. Howl + Oliver and I think of scary wolves and small kittens. Def. a weird combo.)

I'm not a fan of Amy/Aimee any way it is spelled.

I'm an Aimee! I've seen it spelled Amie, too, which I do not mind. I prefer Aimee to it spelled any other way, but, yeah, definitely biased. i just like writing it my way best.
