I think Michigan would make an amazingly pretentious-scholarly middle name for a guy. That may or may not have anything to do with that being where I'm from. Oh, and same for Wisconsin.

You have your typical state names like Georgia, Carolina, Virginia, Dakota, Montana.
I've seen Jersey used plenty of times.
Julia Stiles played in the 2003 moved called "Carolina" where her and her sisters were named after states they were born. Carolina, Georgia, and Maine. Georgia had a son she named California nn Cal.
I think Maine, Kansas, or Alaska would be different.
