 what do you guys think of when you hear/see the name Emily (or any other spelling) 

the name itself makes me think of a sweet, innocent, quiet, shy girl.

but everyone with this name that i know is like the complete opposite lol.

I have known Emilys of every age so it's not a name that has a single type. I guess it sounds like a thoughtful name. My overall associations with it are Emily Dickinson and Emily Bronte so I like the literary angle.

Most of the Emilys I've known have been bossy and rude, so I didn't like the name much until recently. I agree with the above poster that I like the literary aspect of the name. I really like the French spelling.

So funny you should post this, not even 40 minutes ago I just said to my mom, "I'll never understand the appeal of the name Emily. There's nothing absolutely wrong about it, but it's just so drab, boring and plain"

i love the name emily and most of the emily's that i have met, i have a positive connotation about.

my best friends daughter is emily and she is quiet, sweet and creative.

i see it as a strong thoughtful name that can hold its own at any age.

i guess when i hear someone with that name, i think she is smart and witty and kind.

Emily is one of those names that is so common that it doesn't make me think any kind of person, it seems like it could apply to pretty much anyone (much like Elizabeth, Sara(h), Anna, Rachel, etc.). Overall it has good connotations for me, though. Not a name I'd use, but a name that's nice in general. :)

I love the name Emily. Never used to, but the past few years I've just grown to love it so much. I think it suits a sweet little girl, but it also ages well in my opinion.

I really want to use it sometime but my second cousin used it for her daughter and I don't know if it would be weird if I used it too sometime in the future.

I think of a sweet, free-spirited, pioneer girl. My mind does the same thing with Emily as it does with Amanda. It's so blah in the modern sense, so I picture it from back in the day.

Makes me think of masses of trendy little girls. I also think of Emily Elizabeth, the girl from the Clifford books.

This is probably because I've never met a little Emily I liked, and because it seems like every other little girl between the ages of 4 and 10 has this name. Like the Jennifers of the 80's. Also, as other posters have mentioned, it is just commonplace and dull sounding.

haha I was kinda going to say the same thing. I used to like the name, thought of a cute little sweet girl. Then I met my current long time bf and I found out about his ex named Emily and what she was like too.. which was the opposite like you said.
