Sci-Fi Names

For a story, I came up with a family who named all the kids after science fiction characters. (The parents met at a sci-fi convention.) Can anyone identify all the characters? Some are pretty obvious.

Valentine (g)
Kirk (b)
Luke (b)
Daniel Jackson (b)
Kaylee (g)

The dad's name is Will Robinson and the mom's name is Susan (good luck with that one).

I will applaud them for not being way more obvious, because these are all very nice names. I've got Ender's Game (Valentine), Star Trek (Kirk), and Firefly (Kaylee), but not the others.

kirk-> good ol' james t from star trek
luke-> skywalker, star wars
daniel jackson-> stargate

Thoroughly and indeed. My current state of geekdom is undoubtedly due to growing up on B5, Star Wars, and all flavors of Star Trek. With a splash of Forever Knight, just for a change of pace. :)

I'm glad you think so. I wanted them to be subtle, not like, say, Spock, Chewbacca, and Teal'c. The parents are fans, not fanatics. :)

And you got those three right, by the way. Luke is from Star Wars (Luke Skywalker) and Daniel Jackson is from Stargate.

As much as I hate the name Jackson, the combo 'Daniel Jackson' is kinda cool just because of Stargate :P

Indeed (as Teal'c would say). I always thought it was odd that they'd have one main character named Jack and another named Jackson. Even though one's a first name and one's a last name, it's still strange. But stuff like that happens in real life, so I guess we can chalk it up to verisimilitude.

I didn't get Daniel Jackson or Susan, but the rest came pretty quickly. I really should watch Firefly, I've only seen Serenity.

Yes, you ABSOLUTELY should watch Firefly. Over and over, in fact. Serenity's fantastic, but in some ways I really prefer the show, it's happier. :( Stargate (source of Daniel Jackson) is also very much worth watching.

What a shame they only named her Caitlin. Why not Uhura or Jadzia? :)

Oh, gotcha. I do recognize the title now. I've never read any Heinlein. I know, I probably just lost all my geek cred... there are too many books to read!! I'm eagerly anticipating the day you can flash-download an entire book into your brain, like saving a file. Until then, there are only so many hours in the day. :(
