I just met someone named:

Prairie (f)

Curious to know what you all think about this one.

I almost want to hate it, but I find it pretty in a guilty-pleasure-Laura-Ingalls-Wilder-y way.

Heh, I'm no fan of Laura Ingalls now, but I too find it guilty-pleasurably-likeable :D
Must be cause I tend to like all "nature" names, as long as they make some sense.

I wouldn't use it, but it's definitely not awful.

It's along the lines of other crunchy names, like Willow and Meadow. I kinda like it, but don't think i'd use it for a child..

ITA. I would love it as a cat name though. :)

I like a lot of nature-y kind of names on girls, but I don't really like Prairie. I guess it just makes me think of dust and boredom, as opposed to names like Meadow and Iris, which give much more beautiful mental imagery.

Absolutely!! :) Beautiful name for a horse, too...

I like it on a pet or fictional character. This is on my guilty pleasure list.

I don't hate it. And I am shocked at myself. I definitely wouldn't use that, but it's really not that bad.

I don't like it, but I don't think it's completely horrible either.

I... actually like it. It rolls off the tongue nicely. Hard to shorten though.

I probably couldn't picture it on a person if not for The Ballad of Lucy Whipple, by Karen Cushman, but it is definitely a guilty pleasure of mine. I was born in Kansas, so the name has some nice associations for me.

My main objection is that it's difficult to say, too many R's close together. Maybe that's just me. Aside from that... well, it's certainly odd. But not in a terrible way.

My new cousin's name is Savannah. My grandfather upon hearing it asked if her sister was going to be named Prairie or Tundra. lol

Better a muppet than Prairie dog, which is the first thing that popped into my head. :/
