[identity profile] sandtree.livejournal.com posting in [community profile] babynames
Every year, my newspaper has a giant section with all the babies born in the previous year. Since I am insane, I like to use this to compile statistics for the most popular baby names in my area. Note that, firstly, this doesn't represent every single baby born in the area, only those whose parents had the money and/or inclination to do this; and secondly, that this represents only babies born in my particular area: Windsor and Essex County in Southwestern Ontario, Canada.

If you're curious, or want to compare, here are the entries I've made for previous years:

2008

2007

2006

Note: The number in brackets is the total number of babies with that name. I have combined alternate spellings, and listed any alternate spellings below the name, along with the number of babies with that spelling.

There were 687 babies total.

Heh. Middle names are such throwaways. It's such a shame. They're nice enough names, but when the most popular middle name is twice as popular as the most popular first name, you know they aren't using it because it's a great name.

Wow, although I don't like Chase I am pleasantly surprised by how nice the top 8 is for the boys. Especially Alexander! I love that name but I'm surprised to see it's no. 1! Very cool. The girl names, on the other hand... same trendy stuff we're seeing everywhere else. :(

Used to live in Windsor, miss it.

I am sad that Owen is #8, I thinkn it is getting very popular in Ontario and I wanted to use it!
