Emerson Wesley.  Yes or no?
Oliver Wesley.  Better or worse?

SSA lists Emerson as a girl's name?  It sounds like a boy's name to me.

I prefer Oliver Wesley, although both are pretty nice. Emerson is too much of a last name to me. And yeah, I think it's used more as a girl's name.

Emerson is a girl's name just like Madison is... it means son of Emory (or some other random Em name)... what do you think? It's this ridiculous "give girls manly names to make them strong, including dead white guys' last names" crap.

I like Emerson Wesley. I have Edison on my list for boys. It's nice.

I like both. I agree Emerson sounds more like a boy's name, although the only one I've ever known was a girl. :)

Love both! Emerson seems like a boy's name to me, too!

Funny how the husband and I just had a discussion on boys names put on girls that just make UGLY girl names. I've always seen Emerson as a boy's name.

I prefer Emerson Wesley. I like all three names, but I just don't like Oliver with Wesley.

Both are very nice combos, but I like Oliver Wesley just a little bit more as Emerson is becoming more used on girls. (Although the only Emerson I've ever known was a Keith Emerson.)

I'm a teacher and there is a boy in my class right now named "Emerson". Every time I call his name I think of the poet (I'm an English teacher ;)

I think the use of Emerson as a girl is a spin off of Madison, with the bonus of being able to call a girl Emy as a nickname. I wouldn't use it for a girl though :P

I had his sister a few years before and her name was Jossely. I think they are both lovely names...

I like Oliver Wesley better. I hear Emerson about twice as often on girls as boys.

Emerson = no. #1 it is a last name and #2 although it sounds masculine (and should be a boy's name, in my opinion), people will assume it is a girl AND it will likely lead to nicknames like "Emma" and "Em" and "Emily" -- used in a mocking tone by 11-year-old bullies.

Oliver Wesley is fantastic.

Oliver Wesley is my preference just because Emerson has been used as a girls name lately. I hate it used that way, but it seems to be going that way (plus it has the bonus nickname of Emmy for a girl).

I prefer Oliver Wesley.
I have only heard Emerson (other than as a surname) used on a boy; I didn't even know girls were using it. Ick- that doesn't sound at all pretty, imo. =/

Emerson is a boys name in my eyes as well, though not one that I particularly care for - I like Oliver Wesley much more

I prefer Emerson Wesley. And definitely consider it more masculine than feminine. But it's a guilty pleasure name of mine, so I gave it to my (female) cat as a middle name. Yes. I am a geek. :D
