my brother and his wife are expecting their second son this spring. they are firmly decided on the first name, but are at odds about the middle name. which do you prefer?

Mason Andrew
or
Mason Blake

I like both, but I'm leaning more toward Blake, which is my sister-in-law's brother's name. The first son was named after my side of the family so it seems only fair that the second should be named after her side.

I like them both, but prefer Mason Andrew, because the repetition of the long a sounds in Mason Blake is a little jarring to me.

Mason Blake sounds best, imo, and I agree with your reasoning.

Mason Andrew flows/sound better, but I like the name Blake more than Andrew. Mason and Blake just don't sound good together.

I think Mason Andrew sounds better. But that's just based on how it sounds, the combo with more meaning I think should be chosen.

Ditto. I don't like when there are hard AY sounds in both names.

This. I'm not really a fan of either Andrew or Blake. They're perfectly respectable names, though.

i personally think that Mason Blake sounds better - for me it's a syllable thing that makes it roll nicely. :)

i think mason andrew sounds best, but i am all for middle names with personal meaning, so my vote would go for blake.

Mason Andrew wouldn't cause a word to be spelled out with his initials would it? (M.A.D perhaps, or something similar?)

I like Mason Blake anyhow, it flows nicely in my opinion.
