[identity profile] heatherpantss.livejournal.com posting in [community profile] babynames

My sis is about 15 weeks, and we are all dying for a girl. She showed me a list of girl names a long time ago and most of them were AWFUL. Absolutely terrible. (Like really obscure, unheard of, creatively spelled names.) I was honest with her. But one name that was actually okay was Lucy, and she said it was high on her list. She has been mentioning it a lot lately.

Our mom passed away in 2002, and her name was Brenda Lynn. She wanted to name her baby after our mom but her boyfriend's ex-wife is named Brenda, so she can't. Therefore she has decided the middle name will be Lynn. (Which is also my middle name, yay!)

So what do you think of Lucy Lynn?

Personally, I think it's adorable. But I know some might think it's too matchy.

I think Lucy Lynn is adorable, as well. :) Very cute and girly. I don't think it sounds very matchy at all.

I think it's adorable, and not too matchy at all. my mother's full name is Lisa Lynn, though, so I might be a bit biased? ahaha.

I think Lucy Lynn is cute. It actually kind of redeems Lynn in my eyes. I don't think Lynn is a bad name but it's kind of a throwaway middle name, like Jo or Marie (or today: Grace, Rose, Hope). My middle name is Wynne. You know, Lynn with a W. ;)

I think it's super cute. I love the alliteration.

I really really like it, very cute for a little girl and Lucy ages well so its not overly cutesy.

Very good, and it's special to her. But if she does decide to use a funky name...it's her choice. You can handle it.

As a rule I veto alliterative names, but Lucy Lynn sounds cute. More importantly, the name has meaning, and that trumps style in my book (within reason). Here's one alternative: Lucy Brynn. You could look at Brynn as a combination of Brenda and Lynn. Avoids the ex-wife's name while including mom's name and avoiding alliteration. I like that idea. Lucy Lynn really is fine, though.

I feel you! My hubby only wants to name our kids unique and made up names. And I like traditional names and traditional spelling. . I think when I am in labor I'm going to sneak off and give birth so I make sure to sign the birth certificate.

I think it's a wonderful name, especially with the reasoning behind it. The matchiness doesn't bother me at all. Go for it!

Too matchy/cutesy.

It has personal meaning and is a name you like, you're not going for it because it's cutesy and matchy, it just happened to turn out that way - as long as the last name doesn't begin with an L I think you're safe, and I think it sounds very nice

Oh, I don't - Lucille ends in an L sound that kinda blends with Lynn, so it winds up sounding like "Lucy Lynn" anyway unless you slow it down and enunciate everything but I think doing that just makes it sound awkward and clunky

It works! Lucy Lynn is really cute, and not in an obnoxious way.

JW: Is your main issue with the other names is that they are kre8tyvelee spelt, or because they are obscure and unheard of? The latter anybody can deal with - and I actually applaud, if the names are legit - but I feel for you on the former reason.

To be completely honest, I think Lucy Lynn sounds sing-songy (yes, in a bad way). HOWEVER, I have never put a tremendous amount of thought into middle names, because you have to think about how infrequently they are used. I think my relatives, my fiance, and my best friend are the only people in the world that I have told my middle name to, and I'm not even trying to hide it! Therefore, I'd say go for it. It's not like people introduce themselves with their first, middle, AND last names.

Maybe Lucia Lynn with Lucy as nn? Or Lucy Brynn was a nice suggestion also.
