My grandmother's sister was named Evil Lee. I used to laugh every time I saw it written down, but I find that I love the name. Its pronounced ehv-eh-ly, kinda like Emily with a V instead of an M.

Obviously the original spelling is a problem LOL! I'd like to remove the evil LOL! I've looked around and can't actually verify that its a "real" name.

Any suggestions?

Evaley? Though that would look like Ee-vah-lee. I quite like the sound but I'd have no idea how to spell it.

Hmmm... I can only think of Evily. Ehvily? Ew no um....Evely? that might been seen as Eve-eh-lee. Not good. Don't think I'm much help....but I like that! It reminds me of Annaleigh which I love.

Everly sounds pretty close, and gets rid of the "evil."

It's pretty! I love Evelyn, so I like this a lot too. I would spell it Evely.

I really like the way the name sounds but not any of the spellings. I think Evalee is probably the best choice. Maybe Evaleigh?

Evely looks like you forgot the n for Evelyn.

Only rules about cruelty to children would keep me from spelling it Evil Lee and then correcting people about it's pronunciation.

On the other hand, I constantly have to correct people about the correct way to say my name, and it hasn't scarred me yet (though if they're not likely to run into me again I don't bother with corrections). Spell it the way that looks best to you, and your child will get used to it. If she hates it, that's what middle names or naming yourself are for.

If you're going to use it as a character's name, just remember that anything that isn't common English will be pronounced a thousand different ways, and the best way to correct this is to have a pronunciation guide or pull a JKR and have the character herself tell someone who's pronouncing it wrong how to do it right.

Eveli? Comes with the added bonus of being a legit name in Estonia.

I vote for Evalee or Evelie. Those two look the most like legitimate names.

I'd spell it Evaly or Evolie.

that was my thought too. i have everly on my list, and the pronunciation is the same without the R... but i agree, the spelling looks kind of odd, so evalee?
