are kashmir and kashmira insane names for girls? when i have children i would like to name them after bands, songs, or musicians that i admire (i know, i'm weird). Layla Jade is my first choice for a girl (Layla by Derek & the Dominoes [eric clapton]). James(Jimmy) Dylan is my first choice for a boy (after Jimmy Page and Bob Dylan). I also like Kashmir (after Kashmir by Led Zeppelin), if i actually named my daughter that i wouldnt call her kashmir, i would call her either mira (which works because that's a hebrew name and jewish children have hebrew names anyway, but usually in addition to their normal names) or i could call her kasia.
i want your honest opinion because i know i sound like one of those people who name their kids crazy things that no one likes, like allynlia and stuff like that.

Normally I'm quite anti 'Odd' names, but I rather like Kashmir. Maybe it's the russophile in me...

Kasia is a Polish name, equivalent of Katherine or Katy, and is pronounced 'Kasha', so something to be aware of with alternative spellings. Mind you, I like Kasia too!

I personally don't like Kashmir. Reminds me of cashmere. However, I really like the name Mira. It's sweet and reminds me of Mira Sorvino whom I love.

Layla Jade is very pretty and I love the song Layla by Eric Clapton!

James Dylan is also very hip. Sounds very rock starish. Which is a good thing, imho. : )

There's not a bigger Led Zep fan then me, and I think Kashmir is a bad Idea. Bad, bad idea. I do *love* Mira. The fact is not many people even know that song by them, and will automatically think of the fabric, cashmere. The sentiment will be lost, and your kid will prolly be embarassed. I'd personally just stick with Mira.

I've thought about using Layla as a name for a daughter too. It's such a great song. And the connection with The Beatles is also a positive for me because The Beatles are my favorite band. Unfortunately, I don't so much like any of their names or very many of the names in their songs. I promise I won't name my daughter Martha or my son Mr. Mustard!
I don't so much like Kashmir but DO like Mira. I like the name James Dylan as well.

Our little Layla Reece is due on March 1. She dances like crazy when we play that song.

My friend is named Casmir (pronounced almost the same I think), and she goes by "Cassi" She won't let anyone call her Casmir, and only uses the name when she absolutely has to. I personally like the name, but you'd have to be ready for the possibility that your daughter wouldn't use it.

Well, Layla was written about George Harrison's wife, Pattie, with whom Eric was having an affair, so there's that...
Kashmir is a place (which is a no-no in my personal book in regards to names), and if you're going to call a kid A, when her name is B, her name should have been A in the first place, so if you're going to call her Mira, name her Mira...but that's a command in Spanish, meaning "Look!" so I wouldn't go with that, either.
