Names for Twin Girls
Nov. 23rd, 2009 06:20 pmMy husband and I have agreed that we both like Claire, last name Ingram. Middle name undecided. That can come later, after we've settled on a good sounding name for her sister. We'd also like to pick a backup 3rd and 4rth name, in the event that we meet the babies and neither of them strike us as a "Claire".
We are trying to find names that sound good together when calling both girls, but are not too similar or rhyme. I am REALLY not a fan of rhyming names for my twins---as a twin myself, it made me feel like less of an individual, like I was part of a set, like bookends. It also sucks as a kid when someone call you the wrong name because they sound too similar, and when you correct them, they just wave their hand and say, "Whatever" like your name or who you are does not matter. And it happened ALL the time---I barely notice it now, but it hurt my feelings a lot when I was little. And people keep suggesting rhyming or really similar names to me for my girls! Hahaha, no. I've just been telling everybody that I'm naming them MONSTER TRUCK and NASCAR and we're not sharing the truth until the birth certificates are signed.
SO! On to the names. :)
Ava
Charlotte
Grace
Gwen
Isabella
June
Liana (or Lily, Lola)
Madeline
Maia (or Maura, Marie, Miranda)
Noelle
Natasha
Rose
Sylvia (or Selena, Sophia)

Claire and Charlotte
Claire and Liana
Claire and Miranda
I like all of those. The rest of the names are lovely names... but these are the only ones I like with Claire.
Our twin girls are Vivian Adrian and Vera Audrey. I don't think they're too similar(and if they think so when they get older, one can use her middle name). So, needless to say, I may like more matchy names than you. But I just wanted to say we also considered Caitlin and Charlotte. =)

I think Claire and Ava sound great together, but Ava Ingram kind of runs together.
Claire and Rose Ingram
Claire and Lily Ingram
Claire and Sophia Ingram
Claire and Madeline Ingram (depending on how you pronounce, but be bit too rhymey 1st/last)

Date: 2009-11-24 05:29 am (UTC)Of your listed choices, the combos I like best are Claire & Ava (both elegant and simple), Claire & Grace (both one-syllable with long-A sound), or Claire & Lily (both simple and just have a similar feel to me). I think when you pair names with radically different rhythms, like Claire & Selena or Claire & Natasha, it starts to almost sound like a joke, like Rikki-Tikki-Tembo-No-Sa-Rembo-Cheri-Bari-Ruchi-Pip-Bari-Pembo and his brother Chang. So even though I don't like rhymes or matchy-matchy names, I do feel like the names should "go together" in some subtle way, if only stylistically.

Date: 2009-11-24 02:47 pm (UTC)one way to not be so rhymy or matchy is to pick names the the same amount of syllables (Like Ava and Noelle)

Date: 2009-11-25 04:03 am (UTC)I think it was I was introduced to her and the other manager, Carissa, at the same time, so I blended Michelle and Carissa in my head and out came Melissa.
