My brother and SIL are going to be welcoming a new nephew within the next week. The parents are naming him Tobyahs. What's the general preferred spelling on this? I hate this spelling personally although I like the name Tobias/Toby. :)
Adding my voice to the general "oh no!" Tobias is a great name, Tobyahs is awful. It's not like Tobias is very common, which is *usually* the rationale for spelling a name kr8yvly.
Um, Tobias is the only way to spell it. Tobyahs is just ridiculous. It doesn't even phonetically make sense to be the same as Tobias. Oh, I really hope they change their mind on that one. :/
Tobias/ Toby is a great name. I don't like that other spelling at all. it's hard to read, and I guarantee he's going to be spending his whole life spelling it and pronouncing it for everyone, when it could be very simple and still unique enough if they would just spell it the right way.
Pretty much my rationale. The only time I've heard the name Tobias/Toby recently is from Arrested Development and the actor. Love it, just hate the spelling.
Every time she posts it on her Facebook I cringe inside.
I'm sure he will be, but he'll join the rest of the kids of his generation doing the exact same thing.
So, so glad I have normal tastes in names. I just wonder why people don't think about their children being strapped with this name the rest of their lives. :(

Date: 2009-11-01 08:21 am (UTC)Tobyahs however is kind of a WTF name for me. That spelling makes me want to change the pronunciation to TOBY-yeahs. Not good.
