Our baby girl still needs a name...
Oct. 28th, 2009 12:34 pmI'm due to have my second girl on Nov. 11, just two weeks from today. My husband and I have been having a terrible time coming up with names this time around... it just seems like nothing "clicks."
Some info that may help... she will be joining her 2-year old sister, Amelia Jade. Our last time begins with an H, and is two syllables.
As for our preferences... we don't care much for "virtue" names (Patience, Chastity, Charity, etc.) and want to try to avoid anything TOO popular (Olivia, Grace, etc.). I also tend to like names that have nickname options, but it's not necessary.
Some names we have been looking at (opinions and middle name suggestions welcome):
Lydia
Madeline*
Abigail (yeah, I realize it's in the top 10... I still like it, though)
Daphne
Natalie
Mackenzie
Kaitlin*
* I like the sound of Kaitlin, but not sure what spelling I like. (Kaitlin / Kaitlyn / Caitlin / Caitlyn / Katelyn, etc...)
* For Madeline... how would you pronounce it seeing it spelled Madeline versus it spelled Madeleine?
Suggestions for other names are very much appreciated as well!

Date: 2009-10-28 04:49 pm (UTC)I like Kaitlyn and Lydia.
I'm not such a fan of the name Natalie. Had a roommate by that name and she earned the nicknames Nastalie, and Nasty Nat. she was nice but a little on the wild side.

Date: 2009-10-28 04:51 pm (UTC)i always pronounce madeline with the -lynn sound at the end rather than the -line, but that's because everyone i've known, whether it was spelled madeline or madeleine, pronounced it -lynn.

Date: 2009-10-28 04:54 pm (UTC)I like Abigail, Daphne, Natalie, and Caitlin--the C spelling seems less harsh, somehow. As for nicknames, Abigail obviously has nickname options, as do Natalie and Caitlin. Not sure what Daphne's would be, though. Hmm.
Lydia is alright. I can tell you that Mackenzie and even Madeline are extremely popular right now.

Date: 2009-10-28 05:02 pm (UTC)the whole Madeline thing throws me-
I like the pronunciation Mad- uh- line
but everyone seems to pronounce the last syllable "lynn"
Madeleine- I want to say Mad- uh- lane
I like Daphne and there aren't many people using that name- so not too trendy
how do you feel about Naomi?

Date: 2009-10-28 05:05 pm (UTC)I would pronounce Madeline and Madeleine the same way: mad-uh-LINE
Just because that's the pronunciation I prefer :)
Abigail Daphne sounds nice as far as combos go, as does Daphne Madeline

Date: 2009-10-28 05:44 pm (UTC)Her sister, coming in February, will be Colette.
Some of our other name ideas were Coraline, Leila, Natalie, and Emma...I don't remember many others, though. I'm also a fan of Daphene and Penelope and Delilah. Abigail, too, but I have a cat named Abby, lol:)

Date: 2009-10-28 05:50 pm (UTC)Natalie has never had a pretty sound to my ears. Nms.
Abigail and Kaitlin are pretty but common imo. Not bad choices, but not names that make someone say, "oh, what a great name!"
Mackenzie is ick. Sorry.
Madeline, when combined with all the Madelyn and Madisons and Adeline and Addisons out there is just way too common. I know a LOT of Maddies and Addies.
Madalyn - mad-uh-linn
Madeline - mad-uh-line
Madeleine - mad-uh-lehn
Of course everyone out there seems to have their own rules on that, makes the name/s extra confusing. You'll pretty much always have to spell it out.

Date: 2009-10-28 05:53 pm (UTC)I'm not fond of the Mac- names, so Mackenzie is out for me. That said, Kenzie is kind of cute.
I live in Amish-ville and Lydia is a very popular Amish name so I can't lose that association.

Date: 2009-10-28 06:12 pm (UTC)If you intend it to be pronounced Mad-uh-line, then I like Madeline. Otherwise I think I prefer Abigail or Caitlin. Mackenzie doesn't seem to fit with any of these other names, which are much girlier.

Date: 2009-10-28 06:13 pm (UTC)madeline is always pronounced like madelyn to me. i would need to be corrected if it was actually pronounced made-line. i like both pronunciations a lot, but madelyn seems more popular. the only made-line i've ever heard of was the cartoon.

Date: 2009-10-28 07:07 pm (UTC)I think Lydia, Madeline (I would say -line, not -lyn or -len), Daphne, or Natalie are the best options. With Amelia as a sister, I would go with Lydia or Madeline. They both sound great with it.
I would spell it Caitlin. This is really the only spelling I'm okay with -- the rest are too trendified for me. And judging by your other name choices, I feel like Kaitlin really isn't a name you're going to be happy with 10-15 years from now (or even 5 months from now). And same with Mackenzie.

Date: 2009-10-28 07:56 pm (UTC)I like all of your name choices except Mackenzie, and Kaitlin is extremely popular especially when you consider all of the differents spellings.
A few other suggestions: Genevieve, Corinne, Claire
Genevieve has several nickname options: Jenny, Gena, Eve, Vieve, etc.

Date: 2009-10-28 08:05 pm (UTC)& as for pronounciation, my pronounciation of the name doesn't differ, but i prefer madeline. i LOVE the name. i don't know if you have a middle name, but if you go with madeline, i love madeline avery. good luck! :)

Date: 2009-10-28 10:22 pm (UTC)Abigail and Mackenzie are okay, though the latter doesn't seem to fit your theme (the others are more girly).
I dislike Caitlin (this is the spelling I prefer) and Lydia, am indifferent to Natalie, and hate Daphne.

Date: 2009-10-29 12:12 am (UTC)I pronounced Madeline mad-uh-LINE, and Madeleine mad-uh-LANE. I prefer and really like Madeleine.

Date: 2009-10-29 12:28 pm (UTC)I also like Caitlin (spelled this way) and Natalie. Abigail and Daphne are just nms and i'm so-so about Mackenzie, however this is my prefered spelling of the name. I HATE Lydia because I had a friend in high school who was always referred to as Lydia-Chlamydia.
I pronounce Madeline Mad-uh-LINE, Madeleine - Mad-uh-lynn or mad-uh-lane
