[identity profile] cremepuff.livejournal.com posting in [community profile] babynames
This weekend at work, I was taking orders at the register from a large group of pre-teen girls. When I asked one for her name to put in the computer, it was really hard to hear her answer with the background noise. I asked her if she had said Kaylee. She got all huffy with me and said "Um, NO, it's Kaylene, K. A. Y. L. E. N. E." Had the girl been a little nicer, I would have told her that it was a pretty name. I kind of like it.

WDYT of Kaylene?

Blah. It's just another variation on Caitlin/Kayla/Kyla/Kaylin/Kylin/Kaylee/Kylie.

It reminds me of my SIL's name, Kylene, which is a combination of Kyle and Eileen, and her daughter's name, Kyla. Sooo, it's an annoying name for me, LOL.

Fiance's coworker is Kayleen, goes by Kay/K - she's cool, and I like Kay better than Kayleen.

I like it too - I knew a girl named this in high school, but I actually liked her spelling better: Kalene.

I have to agree with the people that say it sounds white-trashy but asking a teen to spell out her name when she probably gets it so often and then expect her to be nice is too much to ask... teens are not nice half the times anyway xD

I don't like it. Others said it sounds white-thrashy and I'm afraid I'm going to have to agree. :(

I also have a hard to spell/pronounce name for some people (Lorien, like DeLorean haha) but I have never been rude to people about it. Ugh, I think everyone should be required to work in retail for awhile because then they would be SO much nicer to the employees.

But no, I don't like Kaylene. I know a Faylene and I don't like that either.

Similarly, I have a friend named Karoline, pronounced Karleen (what were her parents thinking?), who goes by Kay most of the time too. Since Kar isn't a very good nickname.
