[identity profile] amstorrs.livejournal.com posting in [community profile] babynames

I was at my daughter's play group the other day when a new family joined.  There was the cutest little girl, 16 months old, and her name was Della (big sister, Riley, was 3).  The more I think about it, the more I absolutely love this name.  What does everyone else think?

Makes me think of Perry Mason - this is not necessarily a bad thing :D I'm not sure about it, I think it's growing on me the more I look at it.

She will constantly get, "Bella?"

And, "Ella? Stella?"

I just automatically thought of Della Reese. So...not really a bad image, but not really an image I want for my kid, either. I don't know, I don't think I like it much at all. It doesn't sound like a name to me, or something.

I love it lots more than the currently popular Ella, which just seems like an incomplete name to me. Thumbs up from me!

I...don't like it. Sounds incomplete or something.
Ella isn't much better, but I prefer it.

I think it's really pretty and a fresh alternative to Bella, Ella, and Stella.

I love it as a nickname to Adele or Delphine and the like.

I don't like it. Makes me think of the Dutch word 'del' and that's... not a good connection, since it would probably be translated as bitch or slut. :P

Della Lena Spence was my great grandmother's name. We really loved it, but it doesn't fit with our last name, so we named our now-3-month-old Dahlia Genevieve Spence Ourlastname instead.

Della is my grandmother's name. I was going to be called Adelaide in a roundabout-namesake kind of way. :-p I think it's a really sweet name.

I have a cousin or great aunt or something named Della. To me it's a bubbly, outgoing boisterous name :)
