Okay we had the list narrowed down, but we are still not sure. We both really like the name August for a girl. We found the name in our family tree. My mother kind of made me feel like a freak about it. Thoughts?

August is a boy's name, as it's the same as Augustus, Austin, Augustine, etc. although I think there's a female variation, Augusta or something.

I think August is a really lovely name. And if you both like it then I think you should go for it!

From what most people have said, if you tell people (like family/friends etc) about names you are thinking about before the baby is born then they will be honest, but if you tell them the baby's name when it has been born, they will love it and won't be able to imagine baby called anything else. Remember that it is your baby and so it should be up to you and baby's father to choose the name.

August is beautiful. The only problem is that its a boys name, as well, but if you're squeamish you can always use Augusta which is a little more feminine sounding.

Augustus is a family name in my family (my great-grandfather was James Augustus Cory) and I've often considered it! I say go for it, you mother had her chance to name children. ;)
